I love guys that tell you what string gauge you need to have to get that tone. I'll stop here.

My use of heavy string is more out of necessity. I play so heavy handed that if I go below 12s I'll be out of tune, terrible technique I know but it is what it is.

I read Billy Gibbons used 8's. I think he had some pretty good rock tones over the years.

Im pretty sure I also read Jimmy page used 8'sfor most of the yard birds and early Led Zep years.

Edit:I better google it to check facts I guess.

After receiving an email from a fellow member and re-reading this post I need to clarify. The comments about female body parts on guys were funny. I was sitting here with some Stones lyrics "you can't be a man cause you don't smoke the same cigarettes as me" running through my head and I was laughing as I typed this. Sorry for the confusion - must be my weird sense of humor. Keep up the banter!

I hear you. As soon as I start playing well and really feeling it my bends and vibratos become too fast and much too big for my taste. Cool if your name is Buddy Guy or Angus Young...not cool if you're me. I'm really struggling with the curse of the 535, I'd kill to jump up to heavy jazz gauge strings, but I'm not about to put Dirty Dottie's sultry frame in any danger.

If your right hand is the issue, forcing myself to play sans amp with .50mm Claytons for two months really helped me gain control of the right meat hook. The constant thwap, thwap, thwap is a not so subtle reminder

Actually it's my left hand :P

I've practiced and for the most part I can keep it under control but I have no problem playing with 12s so I'm not concerned. I can hit 2 step bends just fine on my G string but I'm still in tune (unless I don't want to be) when I hammer the low E
