DCA Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Aesthetics aside, what do you think of the chrome domes? I'll likely take a brick to the side of the head for saying this, but I'm pretty fond of them. I like that the smaller diameter lets you quickly find the break up point in your amp, then instantly roll back to where you want it. I find this to be more natural feeling than than misnomered speed nobs--precision nobs for sure, but not speed nobs. That being said, on an ES style body it really makes no difference as any trip to the volume nob is a scheduled vacation. I ran a black jumbo chrome dome on my 535's neck volume for a couple years before I finally resigned myself to the fact. Congrats on the gorgeous guitar. That finish is outstanding! Handsome at a glance, mesmerizing once you really look at it.

Being small they are easier to get your hands onto individual controls without inadvertantly hitting the other knobs. At first I was worried that the lack of numbers would be a hinderance but my ears make up for it which is what is really needed. I have never liked the speed knobs. They seem to grab my fingers all the time. I am always brushing up against them by mistake. I will keep the chrome.

I'm suprised that you're sticking with the domes, good on you! With a nob transplant, it would look like just another Heritage mug shot of a perfect guitar. Your stick has some history behind it, and it wears it well. Again, that finish is something else. What a lovely guitar.
