tulk1
Tulk is right. "Y'all" means "You all." One person can't be a Y'all. But then if you ask for a Coke in the south people will ask you, "what kind." Coke is the "pop" of the south. It can be a grape or a pepsi. The funny thing is that those of us down here would consider Tulk a yankee.... being from Missouri and bragging about that lame assed BBQ. I ain't no northerner, by no means! I'm from good 'ol Hillbilly stock. And proud of it. And ain't no need to brag when you know it's the best. Sorry for the hi-jack, Steiner. Bet that's going to be a one dandy of a guitar. Steiner
could you tell us all once more about your wife appeasement technique. That was a pure calculated, serendipitous outcome. The second electric I bought was this Les Paul I couldn't take my eyes off. Mrs. Steiner finally told me if I love the looks and it sounds good, I should buy it. I went through the logic out loud that it's kind of like an investment in that it should hold most of it's value and that she could use it to learn to play. "In fact", I said; "I'll buy it and it can be your guitar." That was the calculated portion. The serendipitous outcome is that she has no intention of playing and 10 years later the guitar still resides in the music room ready to be twanged. The new guitar was easier to ascertain. I sold GM stock when it was still valued at ~$45/share, she knows that. I told her "Honey, if we still owned GM stock we'd be wishing we had something to show for it. Put the money in a new Heritage and it will never be worth less than half of the investment (a key operative swing term) and may increase in value. Meanwhile, we reap the hours of enjoyment that come from ownership!" QED.
Steiner
Sorry for the hi-jack, Steiner. Bet that's going to be a one dandy of a guitar. I don't see it as hijacked. Simply being called on the carpet for stating something about which I knew nothing. Typical Northerner. The true dialectic spelling is y'all. Which basically means you, your family and possibly your good lookin' cuzin'. If you want a larger group the vernacular is all y'all. Which means you, your family, your good lookin' cuzin and her sister. Dukes of Hazard .... geez. So, let me see if I comprehend this. Check me if I'm wrong but up here when I order a pop and the waiter says "what kind?" I say "Coke." He says "ok" and I get a Coke a Cola. Yet, in the south if I say I want a coke I'm liable to get any carbonated soft drink including a Nehi? I understand that there are differing tastes between the Yankee and Confederate factions when it comes to barbecue. What I don't get is how one's cousin can be considered "cute" as far north as Missouri! Isn't that the reason they fought that war 150 years ago? High Flying Bird
Not quite. You can ask for a coke and get the "real thing" or be asked which type of soft drink you want. "I'm going to pull in here for some cokes. What do y'all want?" As for the BBQ issue. I couldn't say which style I prefer. I am sure the KC style BBQ places around here don't serve the real thing. I think Kenny needs to overnight some samples don't you guys? Steiner
Holy Frejoles! They Nailed it! I cannot remember the last time I was this excited! What a true giggle it is to see the world's best luthiers and collect one of their creations. Truly a customized guitar. It has all the accoutrements I specked. After picking it up at the dealer's I ran it back to its birthplace and was welcomed with open arms by "the creators". They all signed another label and Ren placed it in the other sound hole. Happy isn't enough to describe my elation from their work. I've always wanted a coustom guitar! Our Heritage friends did it right. I still haven't plugged it in at home. I'm in the middle of a rather large project for work and only get to steal moments to strum her. It sings acoustically. If anybody is considering pulling the trigger on a custom guitar, Now is the time! ~6 weeks to build this snappy example. I'm in Love! A couple shots to satisfy the porn collectors. The fiddle, the creators, Ren displaying the proper technique of strap-lock installation and one of the ad-hoc lesson he threw in for free! Steiner
Being that it is a Beautiful day here in the great white north, I took advantage of it to document the new lady. I was going to start a new thread but couldn't let Tulk's lesson and aftershock about southern vernacular die. At 1.7MB, it will take two posts. The first set includes Kuz's gratuitous butt shot Cheers!
Steiner
The beauty is in the details. I asked Mr. Lamb to make a valiant attempt to blend the maple neck's color with the natural mahogany. The "finger rest" was entirely his idea. What a privilege it is to have these artisans end result. I'm Still in love!
