Kuz Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I hadn't played my 535 P-90 First-Ever Production model in about a month. I fired up through my new (yes I held out on you guys) Matchless sc-30 and....WOW!!!! 1. Forgot (for a moment) how good p-90s sound 2. Forgot what a special guitar she is 3. Forgot how p-90s can go from Chimey to FAT to ratty grit! I won't let her lay dormant for that long again!
Scooter Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Whoa, Matchless are sweet amps. Congrats, Kuz. Can you give us an amp review sometime?
golferwave Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 The P-90's always make a great guitar even better! Nice Matchless! I played through a clubman at a dealership about 10 years ago and they're awesome. I've got a Badcat and it's got great tone but the Matchless amps seem to go that extra step. Now that you posted the pics it's something else to add to my GAS list.
Kuz Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I A/B'd the Matchless and BadCat stuff and have to agree I like the Matchless better. I didn't have an el84 amp and I REALLY wanted an original Vox AC30 but the cost and the reliability was an issue. The c-30 series (mine has a 1x12 Celestion 12gh30) has 2 channels. Channel 1 (12ax7) is Voxy chime heaven- it's the clean channel but it will break up too Channel 2 (EF86) is much higher gain and more Marshall sounding- it can get nasty The amp is 30 watts with a half power (15 watt) switch (it is LOUD). It has a master volume control (that can be disengaged) and sounds better without it, but is a necessity 90% of the time. If you listen to Matthew Sweet (I really liked him before I got the amp) then you are hearing the c-30 cranked to all it's glory. I had a Peavy Classic 50 that always sounded a little shrill and harsh when distorted, but the Matchless has none of that. It is a GREAT lifetime keeper (I always wanted a Matchless c-30). It is also VERY heavy and VERY expensive. When the Kirn Tele comes in HONESTLY, I am done. I am lucky to have more than I need!

tulk1 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 First, we all know this was just an excuse to post pics of the 535 P-90 FEP. Which is fine with me!! Altho' personally, I'd never start a thread just to post a pic of a custom ordered Heritage like ........ oh, lets see .... oh yeah, a Millie NFH. Ha!!!! And you dog!! Holding out on the C30. I just love the AC30 and all it's little babies and clones. And I bet the FEP just sings thru that amp. My guess is, tho', that you probably need some extra room in your stable, now. You could always send the Gib amp over here for a while. Just saying ....
GuitArtMan Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I've owned some gorgeous 535s, but that one just kills me. I'm afraid I'm going to have to take it off your hands for ignoring it.
