golferwave Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I just got back from a friends house and he bought a used Carr Hammerhead amp. It's pretty basic with just a volume, grip, impact, and master knobs. It has two EL-34 tubes and sounds sweet. Just playing around with the settings brings a wide variety of tones. It doesn't have reverb or tremelo but you could do that outboard. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? I know Kuz loves the Rambler and with the 6L6 tubes and reverb/tremelo is a more sophisticated unit but this thing is impressive. Any thoughts?
Steiner Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I've heard a Lot of good things about Carr amps. Probably more so than any other amp. Out of the box they seem to really impress people. I'm interested in your opinion after you've had time to coax new tones out of it.
paul144 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I had one for a while, don't expect to get much of a clean sound out of it though. Very good mix of voxy/marshall tones. Its a loud beast...not a good living room amp, but it breathes nice at gig volumes. I went with the Rambler instead, with a good OD pedal. If early breakup & crunch is what you're looking for, I say go with it.
Mikenov Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I have a friend in Austin that has a Hammerhead II that he has been passively trying to move. I could put you in touch with him if you are seriously hunting.. good luck. Seems like a cool amp.

Just wanted any info that I could pass along to my friend. The hammerhead does sound good though.
