iim7v7im7 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Hi, Over the last few weeks, I have solicited some of your opinions to help me select some options on a custom H535. Thanks for all your help. I order the following instrument from Jay today: * Old Style Sunburst (OSB) finish H535 w/ case * 59 style, one piece mahogany neck * White binding * Bound peghead * Inlaid Logo * Engraved plastic truss rod cover * M.O.Pearl block fingerboard inlays * Premium flamed wood package * White bound f holes * Polished Ebony KB shaped pickguard- white bound * Lollar std. Imperials w/ nic. covers * 18.1 Grovers * Nickel TonePros Nashville bridge & stop bar * Schaller strap locks * black knobs & switch tip It basically has many of the features of a H555, but is toned down a notch. I don't have a firm delivery estimate yet, but I suspect some time between mid-November & mid December delivery. Thanks again and I'll post some photos when it arrives. THanks, Bob

THanks, Bob Bob, Sounds like a killer guitar there. I did a very similar thing when I ordered my Custom 555 (basically a 535 with 555 inlays). One word of advice though. If it was ordered Mid-Sept you are looking at probably early February. Not to break your heart, but to give you realistic expectations to help reduce GAS pains. I have ordered 4 special order guitars from Heritage at various times of the year. By my calculations it will take AT LEAST 3 months build time and then you have to factor in the Holidays (plant is closed). So the good news is it won't take a year or even 6 months, but my guess is late Jan or early Feb. Good luck. Easy part is done, now for the wait!
tulk1 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Ya got to be giggly all over after ordering that one! That is going to be one sweet baby.
skydog52 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 That sounds like a beauty. Anticipation is a great feeling. I like the nickel hardware idea. Congrats
Steiner Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Perhaps I missed it. What kind of fretboard wood? I'd venture to guess Ebony to match the finger-rest. Sounds like a true beauty! Congratulations!
brentrocks Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Damm son! you better slow down...LOL congrats!!!
Jazzpunk Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 OSB is my fav. Congrats on what is sure to be a beautiful instrument!

big bob Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 congrats, for a second I thought you ordered a second. #2 but it is just your second

As I recall, my Sweet 16 took about 4-1/2 months back in 2001 which is consistent with your experiences as well. I was just estimating based on Graham's recent experience where instuments have been arriving in the 8-10 week range. I believe he was going to reach out to Jim Deurloo regarding a commited schedule. Any how, it would be nice before Christmas! :-) Bob
Steiner Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Who did you order it from? It appears to be Jay Wolfe... "I order[d] the following instrument from Jay today" Fact is Bob is supporting the BoyZ in Kazoo and although he gets a guitar for doing so, we should applaud him for keeping them going! Ata boy Bob! You Rock!!!

Congratulations! No, rosewood finger board. Ebony is a bit too snappy for this particular guitar given how I will be using it. The finger rest will balance against the ebony headstock and the black knobs. It will also be contrasting element against the burst. I did not want a maple finger rest. I wanted matte, opaque black ebony to contrast against the flamed, burst maple.
iim7v7im7 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Who did you order it from? Jay Wolfe
zookroo1 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 That sounds awesome! When I find some cash hopefully I'll be able to get one very similar (unless you get tired of yours and feel like passing it on to me!) Keep us updated!
jhack Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Congratulations, It will be magnificent We commanded it practically at the same time we can compare our long wait. Jay announced me between 8 and 12 weeks.
mark555 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I will eagerly await the pictures, and by the way, congratulations on something special.
jhack Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Hi, A stupid question maybe but because your characteristics get closer very close of one h-555, why not to have commanded directly one 555? Except the difference of finishing, certain ornamental details, some used wood, what has other difference between one 535 and one 555?
iim7v7im7 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Hi, A stupid question maybe but because your characteristics get closer very close of one h-555, why not to have commanded directly one 555? Except the difference of finishing, certain ornamental details, some used wood, what has other difference between one 535 and one 555? No, not a stupid question at all. Jay and Graham brought up exactly the same point with me. A H555 customized to be similar to what I ordered would be similar in price. The binding would be different and a few other touches. I bought the instrument based on my preferences of a solid white binding over white-black-white binding and a few other small decorative differences. I prefer a slightly less ornate look (see my Sweet 16 which is also plane in its look). If I intended to sell the instrument, I certainly made a mistake. A H555 would resale for more. :-)
shook494 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Sounds awesome!! +1 on the OSB. My 150 is OSB and I love the look of it. You don't see it around here much. Classic.
iim7v7im7 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 Update: I spoke with Graham who spoke with Vince back at Heritage and my instrument is due to ship to their shop in about 1 month. That is far less time than I was even anticipating. It sounds like I should have it before mid-November (6-8 weeks from order). :-) Bob,Sounds like a killer guitar there. tulk1 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Now thats the kind of update we like to see! Wonderful that they're cutting the time short for you. Did you have Jay mention you are an HoC member? Our orders do get preferential treatment from the 'zoo if they know we're HoC members. Probably the one and only bennie that comes with membership. Well, that and all the HoC friends. So ... guess thats two bennies.
iim7v7im7 Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 No, honestly I just placed the order with Graham a few weeks ago and called to follow up to see if he had spoken with Vince at the factory regarding the delivery schedule. I had originally been told 8-12 weeks. Graham was told by Vince that it would ship the end of October to their shop in FLA. He was as surprised as me. The more rapid timing may reflect the fact that they have performed a number of manufacturing steps on building a number of H535s back at the factory to an intermediate step that allows them flexibility to customize. This is what I think reduced the cycle time. Perhaps Jay can explain it better? I never thought to mention HoC to either Jay or Graham. I did not know that it meant a thing to them. I was a previous customer (Sweet 16) and thought that would be enough to gain a fair price and good service. :-) Bob Now thats the kind of update we like to see!
