Scooter
Hey, guys, Was at Midwest Buy and Sell in Chicago this last Monday. They had obtained a used Prospect since the last time I came. Beautiful guitar. Felt wonderful. VERY impressed . First time I ever picked up a Prospect. Under a grand, too. When I was looking the guitar over I noticed that where the neck met the body it wasn't strait and even. There was a slight backward pitch to the neck from the body (the way the neck appeared to be set). I haven't noticed this before on the other Heritages I've played at stores. It was very noticeable visually but not in the playability, as far as I could tell. It appeared to be structurally sound. Is this normal with Heritages? Or could this be a custom feature or perhaps a problem? I saw nothing about neck pitches on the Heritage site. But I'm aware that some other companies make guitars with neck pitches. CP Thornton's guitars all have them, for example. Neck pitch actually sounds like a nice feature to me; adds to comfort. Any thoughts?
tulk1
Scot, Just looked at my Prospect. From the shape of the body and the way the neck attaches to it, it does appear to be at an angle. Never noticed. So, I'd have to say it's the way they be. Are you thinking about picking up (literally) that Prospect?
tbonesullivan
You mean like this? usually set necks are angled somewhat with respect to the body. That's how Gibson makes them... and it's much more pronounced on a "flat top" guitar like a gibson SG. with the carved tops on LP style guitars it's often hard to notice. Scooter
Are you thinking about picking up (literally) that Prospect? Wish I could! Gotta sell a piece of property that's on the market first...then once that's done there's some specific GAS & AAS I gotta get outa' my system. Until then I must practice restraint. But one thing is for sure: the Prospect blew me away. Crap. I'm really beginning to see how The Heritage can be addictive.

Tbone...the top on that thing is UNREAL. Oh, yeah. Question: Is the entire body of a Prospect made of maple and the neck mahogany? Or is the body mahogany with maple laminate and solid maple sides? The H site makes it sound like the whole bod is maple. Also, thanks for the info Kenny and tbone.
tulk1
The body is laminate maple top and back. Solid maple sides. Mahogany neck. Except for the floating center block, it's pretty much a little brother to the 535. Wonder if they could or would do an attached center block, rather than floating. Just for grins. SouthpawGuy
Forgot I had this shot from a while back .... 535 and Prospect side by side, they both look the same to me.
pegleg32
When you look at the binding of the fretboard as it sets above the body, there appears to be a pretty obvious angle there starting at maybe 1/4" above the body next to the pickup, and then angling down to nothing where it crosses the binding of the body. My 535 is the same away and as I look from the bridge towards the head stock (sort of like aiming a rifle), it appears that the angle may be necessary to accomodate the bulge of the archtop. Scooter
Groovieguitarguus and SPG, nice shots of the neck angles there. Yep, that's what I was talking about. Cool. That Prospect is haunting me. Tempted to see if I could trade a couple instruments and mint parts I have for it.
