New guitar possibilities - HOC opinions welcome!

First off, I've been trying to decide between getting an H535 or an H150 or LP for while now. I hope to eventually have both, but once I get one it will be quite a while before I'm able to get another guitar. I've been watching for a while so I'm not in a huge rush, but a few possibilities are out there at the moment. I've haven't had the opportunity to play tons of either style, but of the guitars I've had a chance to play the semi-hollows seemed to be consistantly good where as a couple of the LP styles were kinda blah. I just want to make sure I get a good one if I don't have to chance to play it first. I posted my dream 535 a while back (basically the same as 535s that are part of the matched pairs out there) but if I can get something nearly the same minus the fretboard inlays and a few minor details for half the price, I can always play now and upgrade later. So here are 4 that I've been thinking about all in the same price ballpark. I'd love to hear any opinions or ideas you guys have, that's why I keep coming back here! For reference, I'd want the 535 for more of a blues/old school rock/jazzy sound and the 150 for more of a ballsy/heavy/blues sound.

H150 w/ SD 59s 2004 I believe

H535 looks like a 2004 I'm not sure of the pickups but it looks to have 1 screw so I'd guess maybe SD 59s

I also really like the wine red finish on a 150 or LP. I'm really looking for a finish that "pops". Cryoman's Wine Red H150 in the for sale section is another strong candidate. I didn't steal his picture because I wasn't sure if that's allowed or not but you can check it out here on the forum classified. It's a nice one. 2006 with SD 59s.

Don't get mad at me for this one but... Gbrand 2003 Standard I've always loved the finish on the particular guitar and it may be for sale.

Since I hope to find a keeper I'm looking for a really nice finish but without breaking the bank. Thanks for the input!

Kenny forgot to ad - "and it's for sale now" if you look elsewhere on this forum. I sort of disagree with him though, I think it's more than just kinda pretty. I think there are also a couple of 150's for sale here too. The first 150 picture you showed looks like one I've been watching on the Bay - that one also looks interesting.

Don, give me a call when you get tired of the new 535. I may be willing to take it off your hands!

I just sold my old 535 on Ebay about an hour ago. Guy offered 1,175 BIN and I took it. Lots of 535's on ebay right now and that is exactly what I paid for it, so I bailed. I don't think I'll be selling the new one any time soon!! And I am really starting to fall in love with the 150, my poor Gibby LP is losing the war, I find the neck on the 150 way way way more to my liking. Funny thing is, I neverr realized how much I like the big neck - I always thought I was a thin neck guy, but the notes just fall in place better on the big neck. I'm somewhat stunned and amazed at the playability. I think the Gibby LP may find it's way to the Bay soon.

Well ... that is true. :D And there is a bit of wiggle room on the $$ for HoC'ers. Thing is, PayPal has gotten so demanding. They want near 4% to process a payment made with a credit card. Granted, they need to make money to stay alive. But 4% eats a truck load of $$s. Figure in the 'bay if you go that way and you loose a good 8% right off the top. Guess that's the price of doing business, tho'.

It occurs to me, maybe the folks here on HOC who know each other ought to just do it the old fashioned way. Send a check, wait 2 weeks or so for the check to clear, and then ship the guitar. cost=$0 if time is not of the essence.

Pegs ... Funny you should bring that up. I have, in fact, done two transactions here in that very manner. Was not a problem for me at all. Then again, if you do PayPal and draw from a bank account rather than a credit card there is no fee.

one of the nice things about this place, and the folks who have been around awhile, is that you can trust them, I sent Kuz (john) a check, no wait for it to clear, he shipped when I sent the check, the same with Brent (ace), I sent the check, he sent the guitar, I have had similar transactions where I have received the check after I sent the Item with steiner (Greg), and a friend of totonka (victor). thats why I don't like the drive by sellers.. we are a close knit group..and we extend trust and respect..

lotsa good deals & nice guitars here. if you're trying to decide which model, you're in Florida - arrange to spend some time @ Wolfe Guitars. & try a bunch of each.

the LP looks nice. took me a *long* time to find an LP as good or better than my beloved '68...doesn't get played as much as my "H" guitars, tho...

I was hoping one of the 1st 2 was going to slide but they're both gone. Oh well, I guess the search will continue on...

Sorry Brian, I didn't realize you might be interested in mine. By the way, don't dismiss this Millie 155, I've been watching it with interest. Haven't heard any of the guys comment on it yet, but it teases me. It's already gone through one cycle without receiving a bid. Maybe you could e-mail the guy and make him an offer.

You're killing me Kenny! If only that baby was in the slightly lower price range...

You may pay a little more here than on fleabay but you're guaranteed to get a Heritage guitar that has been well cared for and in very good condition. In fact the brand new Heritage guitar that I bought from a dealer needed some additional TLC whereas the 535 I bought on the HOC was stellar from the get go (thanks for those upgrades GuitArtMan!).

Just something to consider.

It's always a bummer when a deal falls apart, but I've never regretted taking my time on a guitar purchase. It's always the impulse buys that still burn you up years after the fact  It may smart a bit now, but you're shopping in what is currently a great market with no shortage of excellent H instruments available--time really is your friend.

Isn't that the truth...!!

Think about where you'd like your music to go , to pick between solid and semi-hollow. There's a really nice warmth to a semi and a certain "bark " to the tone, but that won't be heard much with lots of effects going. And solid bodies can really do sooo much.

I do like LP's when they're done right, but I've seen a few lately that really scream "mass-produced". But you really get sooooo much more from a Heritage. I own 5 of them , and can't stop looking at more. It's because I can't believe the great value that you get.... Highest Quality at a much lower price. Makes me want to stock up on them , before everyone else finds out!!!

Good Luck

I saw that one also. Unfortunately, I was driving to and from Chicago while it went off the first time. Already emailed the owner about the chrome hardware since most 155s have gold.

I am not intending to bid, too broke right now, but a few months from now???? Maybe.......
