kath Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Another change I see on their new website is the omision of the H tailpiece. I am glad for that because I had a Golden Eagle with vibration problems caused by the H tailpiece. I wish they were like Carvin that you can order direct and skip the dealer because so many of us do not have a dealer anywhere near us. Carvin has a very strong following and they offer unlimited variations. Also, the price would drop because of the elimination of the middleman. It would be so easy to pull the trigger for a new Heritage if all you had to do is customize your Heritage on the web site or call direct and order your new Heritage. I currently have 2 golden eagles and a groovemaster. I would love to purchase a H555 but no dealer to purchase from. I would have to drive over 100 miles into Atlanta traffic to order it. I would never want to go back to the dealer if I needed a neck adjustment. I would get that service locally. Just my 2 cents!!!! Allan
skydog Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I understand your frustration with the lack of dealers. I'm lucky that my local music store (Broadway Music Merrillville, Indiana) is a Heritage dealer. They're finally able to restock with some guitars after a long dry spell where orders weren't being filled. They currently have two beautiful 150's in stock in wine red and old sunburst. Heritage is fiercely loyal to their dealers. Carvin has always been factory direct. I can't imagine being on the Carvin end of the phone when a customer calls in to order. Their catalog is VERY confusing. I would hope that a Heritage dealer would be well informed and able to assist in the ordering process. Now, if I could only afford a new one! I'd enjoy the ordering/building process.
Gitfiddler Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I also noticed the lack of the 'H' bail tailpiece on the website. The new bail with the black insert is my new favorite! Classy! What was interesting was the descriptions stated 'Heritage Bail Tailpiece'. Maybe it is still available...or maybe not.
High Flying Bird Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I have always liked the "H" tail piece. Joe's 550 has one. If I didn't have a Bigsby on a 550 I would want the "H." Hey Allan, I am in north Alabama. That makes you one of the closest members. Atlanta would be my closest dealer too. If.... when I do a custom order I will go through some tiny shop in Kzoo. I will let Marv pick the dealer for me.

Jazzpunk Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I currently have 2 golden eagles and a groovemaster. You really need to start a gallery so we can drool over those archtops!
kath Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I would if I new how to post pictures!!! Both of my golden eagle have antique natural tops with amber back and sides. One is a thick body with a gold floating pickup and the other is a Byrdland style thin body with 2 gold pickups and a special ebony tailpiece that was a special ordered through Heritage. Both were ordered directly through Heritage with the help of Bill P because of a problem I had with my other golden eagle with vibration problems due to the H tailpiece. Alllan
skydog Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I just started to build my gallery and found out the only way I can upload pics is using the browse and uploading from my computer. Neither the URL method or using the image button to transfer from photobucket would work.
Zneipp Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I think I have to agree that I'm way glad they got rid of the "H" tailpiece. It was far too much metal on such an amazing guitar, made it look like the $500 Washburn jazz boxes.

LH575 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I originally thought it was tacky. I really like it now. Gives it a unique look. Now the Liberty Bell tailpiece - thats a different story...........
yoslate Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I originally thought it was tacky. I really like it now. Gives it a unique look. Now the Liberty Bell tailpiece - thats a different story........... Agree...on both counts. In fact I argued against the "H" bail once here, many moons ago. Then, the more enamored of Heritage guitars and Parsons Street I grew, the more distinct and emblematic the tailpiece became. Now, I don't think I'd even consider swapping out the one on my super Super. I remember the first time I pulled that guitar out of its case; the first thing I noticed was that tailpiece and how substantial and beautiful it was. Seeing one in the flesh makes all the difference.

Seeing one in the flesh makes all the difference. I like the H on my Eagle Classic as well. Doesn't look cheap at all to my eyes. I like the earlier style bail-with-insert better though. Reminds me of the Gibson signature models but with a bit of flair. Don't care for the newer wire tailpieces. THOSE look like Montgomery Wards (oops...anyone remember them?) guitar hardware to me. All in the eye of the beholder, I guess...

All in the eye of the beholder, I guess... Did not like the H tailpiece on my H-550 at first either. However, it really is unique, but hard to clean dust underneath. Scary that it probably could not be replaced if damaged beyond repair. Can't imagine how that could happen though.- Charles Bevell

brentrocks Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 there was actually an issue yrs ago that some of the Hs were falling off....and then there was a problem with keeping them in shock, i guess they had to find a new supplier for the H pieces
Krohawk2 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I have a couple of Heritage guitars with the H tailpiece and have never had any problems with rattles. I don't understand why so many people dislike them. No one seems to have a problem with the R tailpiece on Rickenbackers.
