Geetar
Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and I have been playing guitar for almost a year. I am interested in buying a guitar to keep for a long time. In doing some research I found Heritage guitars and I love them. I am looking for a Les Paul type guitar, single cut, dual humbuckers, no weight relief (I think this is going to help me achieve the fat tone I am looking for, but please correct me if I am wrong), preferably black or dark in color but not required. I think I am fortunate to have Wolfe guitars 5 minutes away from where I work (they claim to be the largest Heritage dealer in the USA) and from what I saw when I went there they have an impressive collection of Heritage guitars. I know that a Heritage guitar is going to cost me dearly, I just hope it will not cost me as much as the available options from Gibson or other manufacturers. So my questions are: What type of guitar will fit my description above? How much should I expect to pay for it? Who do you recommend for me to buy it from to get that price? I will be buying the guitar within a month or so. Thanks in advance for the help.
smurph1
Hi Geetar..Welcome to the cult.. Sounds to me that a H-150 might be what you are looking for..Big fat humbucking tone and low quick action..If I lived that close to Wolfes I wouold go in there and just play every Heritage they had until I found the ONE..Enjoy the search..They are highly addicting.. All Heritage guitars, regardless of price, must be owned by Brent Henderson first. then they get shipped out to other people and dealers.. wolfe has a great selection, you are looking for a 150 series or a 140 series they go used from 700-2200 depending on the options. there is a 140 for sale on craigslist for 850.00 that is a members guitar old one I believe first or second year of production here http://denver.craigslist.org/msg/1425586515.html
tulk1
Geetar, welcome to the HOC. I would think you should count yourself lucky to have Wolfe's just 5 minutes from you. You have a great resource there, not only in available inventory, but from Jay himself (and Graham, of course). They know truckloads about Heritage guitars. As for what you should buy? You have a great shop just minutes from you. Go back, play some guitars, take home the one that calls you Daddy!

rjsanders
welcome, Geetar. i'm thinkin' H-157 "Black Beauty". i'll 2nd & 5th & 8th the props for Jay & Graham, b'lieve you can also "buy-to-try" for a couple days, return w/no questions asked. at least i've done that from California. someone posted a pointer to a used one for $950 (outrageously low) and i would expect a used one to go for anywhere between $1200-2000 depending on condition, a new one being somewhere around $2000 or northwards and worth whatever Jay's is asking
Geetar
Thanks for the replies. I dealt with Graham when I went there, he seems like a pretty cool "chap". What is the difference between the H150 and the H140? I hope it is only cosmetic.
FredZepp
Hello Geetar, I was going to refer you to the Heritage site, but I don''t see info on the 140 there.... It is a good resource otherwise though... If I remember correctly the H140 is just a bit thinner than the H150. There may be trim differences (dots?), but that can vary because it is easy to get Heritage to customize those. You will also see some used h140's that are the "first edition". They are nice also, but a slightly different body style and thinner also. The more recent "2nd edition" looks pretty much like a H150. You will find that there really isn't a bad Heritage, You have to find which one that you like the feel , weight , tone, and looks of. And then find what fits your budget... You sound like a good match for a H150 or H157 Wolfe is a great asset that is close to you... Heritage SolidBody Models Link

What is the difference between the H150 and the H140? I hope it is only cosmetic. mos'ly cutaway style (Florentine (140) vs. Venetian (150 or 157)) and rim (1 1/2" (140) vs 2" (150 or 157)) and therefore weight & certain sound qualities. i don't have much experience with the 140 but i think of it as kinda SG-like and the 150 more LP-like (check out either w/P-90 pickups, btw - that might be a tonal revelation...) barrymclark
I am the proud owner of a 140. I certainly hope to add a 150 or 157 to keep it company someday as well as a slab bodied 137. Another wish list is the new 170. Really dig that one. Snagged up my 140 for about 800. I am sure you can find a similar deal on one. Even seen the occasional 150 go for 850 or so but they don't last at that price.
Sparky
Wolfe also takes trade-ins... so they might have something you like used for a very reasonable price.
