Failed attempt at getting my first Heritage today

Scooter

Recommended Posts

A local store that sells mostly used guitars and gear recently got a Prospect in that I played and fell in love with a couple weeks back. They also got in a 575 since then. I went in today with a bunch of stuff: a couple guitars and some nice guitar parts to see if we could work out a trade for the Prospect. Got to play the 575, too. My first time trying one of those out. Nice.

Didn't get the prices I was hoping for with the two guitars I brought to trade so I didn't even bother bringing in the other stuff I had. The owner's a cool guy, though.

So I'm gonna try craigs list to sell my stuff locally. Hopefully, going this route will get me the dough to grab the Prospect...and hopefully it will still be there if I get the dough! Doh!

Oh, well. Hope springs eternal, eh? :D

Whoa, that's Southpaw's number. I only have 390 posts. But I will banish myself from this forum if I get to 500 without a Heritage. :D Heritage or not, this is my favorite forum, by far.

I put my 1954 Gibson ES-125 on Craigslist tonight and already have a couple guys in the area wanting to come over to check it out and maybe buy it. That would get me most of the way there. We'll see.

Good luck Scooter. You deserve that Prospect! :D

Whatcha got for sale? Smallish toob amps? Interesting pedals?

Hey, DS. As far as what's for sale: nothing too exciting, I suppose, like tube amps. Like I said earlier, there's the 1954 Gibson ES-125.

Also, there is:

-1985 Charvel Model 4 (active pups & mid-boost).

-"NEW" 20+ year old Strat body by DiMarzio (black w/ glossy finish). It's new in the sense that it has been in storage since bought, like the other stuff I'm going to mention. Old new is good. That means 20 years closer to vintage :D .

-Original Floyd Rose (again old/new--also bought 20+ years ago and in storage the whole time.)

-DiMarzio Tuning Machines (same old/new)

-Seymour Duncan Invader HB (old/new again)

-EMG 85 & 81 pups (yes...old/new). These were bought in '88 so it was pre-"quick-connect". Today EMG makes their pups with the quick connect on their pups, which allows people who switch out different EMG pups to be able to do it with ease (unlugging one pup, plugging the other right in). Very cool.

-Koa wood Explorer-style body, refinished and in storage, since.

-Explorer-style neck (old/nude)

-Gallien Krueger 250-ml (although I'm going to wait just a bit to sell this).

Not too exciting. Nevertheless, there's people out there looking for this stuff and it's all in excellent to new condition.

We'll see how it goes.

I don't have a Heritage either - hopefully soon.

But then again I'm not even at 20 posts yet, heck maybe only 10. I think. :D

Don't worry, it'll happen when it happens.

Sorry to hear that. Does the shop do lay-away ? I know my local shop does, even a few online dealers do, might be an option ?

Maybe post some of your for sale here on the HOC, lots of gear nuts, erm aficionados :D , around here .

Hey, Southpaw. Thanks for the layaway suggestion. Yeah, I'd thought about it briefly but I want to make sure I can actually sell some stuff off. The only way I'm gettin' an H at this time is through selling what I already have. And I just didn't want to get stuck in the layaway thing right now. I figure if it's meant to be it's meant to be. Ah, the drama.

LOL! Jeez Scooter, I thought I was bad!

I've been looking to join the fraternity (I don't think my '72 Kzoo Gibby acoustic counts) but I just haven't met the right one yet. A Millie 155 with chrome hardwear would be ideal but they don't come up every day.

I thought I found "the one" a couple of weeks ago on the Bay (the one Pegleg liked) but got cold feet when the seller wouldn't email additional pics. It sold and the buyer's feedback was "Missed some significant defects in description." Whew, that was a close one!

Really appreciate the posts by all the experts on this site. I've learned a lot. Anyway, I'll keep looking and lurking till I find "the one".

Cheers!

Be careful or somebody here will sell you a Heritage.

If I had it to do all to over again, that's the route that I'd take. While hard figures rarely come up, the number of gentlemen that have been shopping Heritages for months that quickly pull the trigger upon registering on this site would indicate that fair and square is the normal price around here. Might be worth your while to cool your jets around here while you concentrate on selling your axes for a fair price.

Above all else you're dealing in a very good buyers market that isn't likely to end soon. Once you raise the funds, time will be on your side. Odds are that the Heritage market will recover well after the rest of the market, so time is seriously on your side. If I wasn't so paranoid about the economy, I'd be ripping an Attila the Hun sized swath of destruction through this soft used Heritage market.

What do you have to trade? I can't help you move up to a Heritage, but I might be able to help you move sideways to a more advantageous position. Any 2nd generation USA Starfields?

Ay, foggy. Glad you dodged that bullet. Yeah, the Millies are hard to come by used (seems to me) and new (Even the H dealers around here never have 'em. Slim pickins on the H, in general, around here.). That's one of the models that does interest me, too.

Also can relate to the appreciation of all the expert input on this site here. Good luck finding "the one." Let us know if you do.

Excellent points, DCA.

I've put a bunch of my stuff on Craigslist already (local deals only, of course). Don't have any USA Starfields (don't even know what that is---a guitar, I'm assuming?) Actually, I sold the '54 Gibson es-125 today (it only went up Fri evening on CL). Moment of silence. So I'm getting close. There's a guy interested in several guitar parts I have. Again...we shall see. But that would get me there.

SLOW DOWN.

All guitars have buyers, take your time. You're liquidating stock, but don't sell like your're liquidating stock. That said, you may have gotten very good values from those sales, so who am I to critique?

About Starfield, they were Ibanez's answer to PRS, kinda. USA made with poached Fender employeees. They only lasted three years, but whereas PRS went the humbucker route, Starfield went the single coil route (they also made slim lines and hss's). And they made MASSIVE single coils and mounted them within 11-12b Strat-esque bodies. Joe Satriani liked the design so much he adopted it for his own signature guitar.

If you're a feedback nut, like I am, those huge single coils make feedback fun and easy. Melodies are really easy to pull off.

There's a Millie SAE and a Prospect on the 'bay right now. The Prospect is near new (says the seller), but I think he's still a bit high. The Millie is right at about $1400. Decent price on that one.

Congrats on the fast sale of the Gibby. That's quite a feat these days, at any price. I hope that you got close to value for it, but right now pretty much everything is discounted. It's so cool, you're getting closer and closer.... to your Heritage....
