jmb27
Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody has had the opportunity to try out any of the pickups from Motorcity Pickups. I am considering swapping out the '59s currently in my 150 and thought I had my 'tone'quest' resolved with a set of Seth Lovers ... but have not yet done the swap and had heard some strong recommendations about Motorcity. any thoughts/input would be muchly appreciated, eh Joel
fxdx99
Haven't tried motorcity - I swapped 59s out of a 150 and put in bare knuckle stormy mondays and like them. Opened it up. I'm a big fan of seth lovers, tho (swapped schalles from the 535 for seths) and wouldn't hesitate to go with them. Also swapped 59s from 555 for Throbaks and like those as well. In general, my own experience has been that pickup swaps aren't huge impacts to the voicing of a particular guitar, but do have subtle characteristics. Tough to describe the audio, but 59s are a bit pinched or tight with seths (and throbaks/bare knuckles) more open/airy. Have read good comments on motorcity as well... good news is that swapping pus on a 150 is easy so can experiment with as many as the pocketbook will allow.
