What is the iconic not-high-power, small combo (preferably 2x10) tube amp? If any.

Would that be the Fender Vibrolux?

YUP!

Yeppers!

Why 2x10 over 1x12?

Was there a 1x12

The 2x10 Vibrolux Reverb, AA964, was Fender's second 2x10 combo to have both reverb and vibrato. The first was the brown Vibroverb model 6G16.

The original name Vibrolux was given to the tweed 5E11 and 5F11 models with a single 10" speaker and two 6V6 output tubes and about 15 watts of power. It then evolved into the brown 1x12 6G11 and 6G11-A model with two 6L6 output tubes and 30 watts of power in 1961. In 1964 it recieved another makeover and became the 2x10, 35 watt model AA964 with onboard reverb essentially replacing the brown 2x10 Vibroverb.

Since Tully didn't specifiy guitar amps, I'd add the Ampeg B-15, as an iconic bass amp.

+, as well as the SVT-B w/8x10 cab. for jazz guitar gigging and recording in NYC and L.A. the earlier Ampegs were very prevalent, too - Mercury, Reverberocket, Gemini. and the Fender Deluxe.

IIRC, Peter Green sometimes used Fender Dual Showman when touring the U.S., so that shows up in a lot of the live recordings
