A Graham Zebede design. I got to play the prototype and one of the first production models. Very nice guitars. The mini's are cool. Didn't realize they were in regular production for other dealers, tho'.

Had both this guitar and a Collings 360 in my hands and the money to buy either, and this one just had something extra special to me.

If there was one thing that would keep me away from the mini's, tho', is what if you wanted to swap for something else? Didn't the Deluxe have a pickup ring to hold the mini? That way you could swap for a full size HB, or not as the whim would take you? Still, that is one beautiful jobber.

No, I had a '68 Deluxe LP (Definitely the stupidest mistake of my life) and the pickup route is only big enough for the mini's or p-90s. GAS was over until I say that beauty.... crap. blueox
I guess I was out of the loop on this, as the one on Eddie's Guitars' site was the first one I have seen with the minis. Talk about GAS!
SouthpawGuy
Silly question incoming: Are the Lollar hums a direct replacement for their own dog ear P-90s ? In other words can they be swapped at will ? Or maybe they would have to be non dog ear P-90s ? ( to be swappable with the mini hums ) Just thinking out loud here. As you can see the thought process is strained to say the least !
tulk1
I'd think it'd have to be soap bars for mini's. They seem to be more of the same size, to me.

ThinLizzy
The one at Eddie's is the first one I've seen in the antique burst. Very nice, but I like mine better.
tbonesullivan
I believe that the Mini HB + rings is the same size as a P-90. that way they could use the same routing. IF you'll notice the mounting rings are not mounted on the top of the guitar like a HB mounting ring would be. So, how do they sound? If i recall Les Paul himself said that the mini-hbs were his favorite of all the high impedance pickups.

If i recall Les Paul himself said that the mini-hbs were his favorite of all the high impedance pickups. I was always partial to LP Deluxes. My H150 with lollar minis has completely soured me on all my other full size HBs. They all sound a bit dull or muffled compared to the lollar minis. The bridge is not as hot as some HBs, but is very easy to drive and get great harmonics. The neck pickup is almost tele single coil jazzy like - VERY articulate and sweet. My H150 "Deluxe" has been my favorite player since its arrival.
tbonesullivan
I've never played one with those pickups, but if The MAN himself loved em... Well... I wouldn't go that far. They were just his favorite of the high-impedance variety of pickup. Les was a big proponent of low impedance pickups, like the ones found on the LP recording models and a few others. I believe they were better for recording direct, or something to that effect. He truly was an original, and I keep wondering when/if gibson is going to put out a copy of his personal LP recording as it was wired last. That could become the best selling signature/authetic guitar in the history of Gibson. Sure, you could have an aged copy of Jimmy Page's guitar, but a copy of the personal favorite guitar of THE MAN himself? Heck I bet Jimmy Page would be beating down the door to get one. Well, it sure doesn't look any worse than some of the recent models Gibs has been trying to push.
