Found this guy over at TGP:

If Heritage is looking for someone to play at their booth for the next round of guitar shows I would like to nominate this guy. If he ain't doin' that 535 proud I don't know who is!

Damn (@ 2:38 into the first vid...wow!). What is the amp he's using? It looks like the bastard offspring of a Marshall-Roland-Mesa/Boogie three way. No, seriously, anyone know what it is? Even with youtube's notorious crap audio, his tone is not bad.

just a sidenote: Shawn was one of the Heritage amps crew in Brentwood. Graham @ Wolfe told me after a visit there that everybody was a player & they'd all gather round to try each amp & critique it before it left the shop...

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the kind words!

As far as amplification. On the Myna Bird Blues video I am using a Mesa Boogie 10/50/100 watt Lonestar classic with Weber VST California 12 ceramic speakers and metal dustcaps. That's run in stereo with a 1964 Blackface Vibroverb knockoff that I built with a JBL D130 F reconed by Weber as well.

I usually just run the boogie by itself. The 535 is a 20th Anniversary model...

My 535 has been with me since about 2005. I did work at Heritage Amps for about a year or so with Paul Cochrane, Lane Zastrow, Val Lupesco and Peter Mather. They are all great guys!!!! I was very bummed when the amp company went under. I went to 2006 NAMM with them and had a great time playing with a lot of outstanding players!

Thanks again!

Shawn, that was terrific!

Any thoughts or comparisons on the H-535 versus the H-575 for jazz and your style of playing?

Thanks, and thanks to JP for posting the great vids.

Shawn~ You are hereby nominated to start as many Amp or Jazz Thread Discussions you want to!!

Man, your tone on that 535 was ala Pat Martino-meets-Riverside Label Wes Montgomery!

And your speed and accuracy simply gave me a headache. Talk about chops and tone!

Wow, Shawn that's great playing and great tone too! I checked your site and see that you are local to me (Urbana). I'll try to get to a show soon.

Hey there Gitfiddler, erplander and Foggy!

Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it!

Erplander, definitely come out anytime! I play at the Iron Post quite a bit as well as Zorba's...

As far as 535 vs. 575, I own an old 50's 175 and for the stuff that I do I just like the tone and versatility of the semi-hollow. The semi-hollow really works for straight ahead, fusion, blues, rock, etc. Plus, the body type is just a bit more comfortable for me to play physically. I've been playing the 535 for the last 4 years so the larger body arch-tops sometimes feel a little foreign to me and not as comfy :D

I bought that particular 535 at Summer Namm in Indianapolis in 2005 while working at Heritage Amps and that one just really felt and sounded great to me.

It's funny, I live in a smaller area and there are 2 other excellent guitar players in town (Kevin Turner and George Turner) Kevin plays a Sweet 16 and George plays a 575. I guess Champaign/Urbana, IL is officially a Heritage town ;)

Glad I found this forum, thanks JazzPunk!

I haven't been back to my alma mater in a while but will definitely try to check out the C-U Jazz Crusaders next time.

Thanx Jazzpunk & Shawn both, Jazz for starting this thread and Shawn for a fine display of just one facet of what my favorite guitar is capable of. I only wish youtube had better sound quality.
