Sparky Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Are they VWB like the H170 on the website, and if they are... what the hell does VWB stand for? I checked their color chart and it was not to be found.
SouthpawGuy Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Are they VWB like the H170 on the website, and if they are... what the hell does VWB stand for? I checked their color chartand it was not to be found. They both look like OSB, Old Style Burst. VWB is Vintage Wine Burst, as used on the 23rd Anniversary 535 models. VWB in not so great lighting ... VWB in better lighting ...

I checked their color chartand it was not to be found. I'm sorry, but those models look like they couldn't decide on the cutaway design so they used both ideas. I'm sure every guitar appeals to someone, but the cutaways just look cut and pasted from two completely different design concepts. That H170 on the website is a killer though, IMHO.

tulk1 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Looks like vintage wine burst to me. Yeppers.

I checked their color chartand it was not to be found. The one on the left is the 110 straight off the website, where they call it VWB - Vintage Wine Burst - which has been identified here as a new color. But compare that to Southpawguy's! I would never have picked his out as being VWB from the website photos - his looks almost like a cherry burst. The "finish" threads this past week have my head spinning. When I saw the website photos of VWB, I thought it was sort of a middle point between OSB and Almond Sunburst - kind of like OSB with a little dark red thrown in. But Southpawguy's is not like that. Then the photos of folks' Dark Almond Sunbursts were also all over the lot. I'm coming around to Pegleg32's comment that maybe they stain it first, then take a look at it later and decide what color to call it!
Kuz Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Here is a true representative version of VWB (vintage wine burst) from my "First ever production model 535 p-90" Hope it helps (plus another chance to post a pic!)

Every time I see that picture the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end - I know I keep saying it, but that is one fabulous guitar.... One day my friends, one day...

SouthpawGuy Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Uh ... isn't that the same guitar you posted in my Dark Almond Burst thread? It can't be both, can it? Yes the same one, but I didn't say it was DALSB, I posted in response to HFB who mentioned the VWB, as opposed to DALSB. Seems your mind is preoccupied with ASB, ASB and DALSB etc. aok ? ( SPG )

Then the photos of folks' Dark Almond Sunbursts were also all over the lot. I have to agree that Southpaw's does not seem like a VWB. I have a VWB on order in a 25th anniversary 535. When I ordered it from Jay he showed me a picture of the 110 from the site actually taken while that guitar hung in the NAMM booth. He told me that the VWB really is (as you say) like an OSB with red undertones. Southpaw has a nice guitar there, but to me, I will be disappointed if my VWB looks like that which I agree is more like a cheryburst or something of that ilk.

I agree that Southpawguy's guitar is very pretty, but that it's not what I'd be expecting if I'd ordered a VWB! If I were you, I'd send that photo to Jay, and say, please tell me this is not what I'm getting .... It does look like there's a fair amount of variability among examples of the same finish. Does anybody have any experience, either with a dealer or with the factory itself, sending a photo of a particular guitar and saying, please try to make mine look like this? That probably doesn't happen (if I were the dealer/manufacturer, I'd be concerned about people then trying to send guitars back, complaining that they hadn't matched the color exactly), but I'd hate to think the process was totally hit or miss.
Spectrum13 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Does anybody have any experience, either with a dealer or with the factory itself, sending a photo of a particular guitar and saying, please try to make mine look like this? Yes. I ordered my Prospect "sunset burst" without the red and sent a photo, confirmed with Ren of a classic 61 335. In came out OSB. They offered to make me a new one and get it right. I was cool with the color anyway as it was my second choice. To me, old style burst was like a 60's 335 (Heritage sunset burst without the red) but to the guys working at K-Zoo in the 50's and 60's, old style burst was a late 40's early 50's sunburst. Missed by a decade. Thinking gold bridge and tailpiece.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 For the record, as there seems to be some confusion, I don't own a VWB finish Heritage. The 535 I posted ( above) was for sale on TGP, and as it is a very clear shot of the VWB finish I borrowed it for illustration purposes. besides ... it's backwards !

Still, it's nice to know they acknowledged the error and were willing to do it over, if you'd wanted.

Well now that I know that its not Southpaws guitar I need not be diplomatic. I really am not in love with that finish. I did, as you suggested, sent the pic to Jay to show him what I did not want and referred him to the website images for the 110 and 170 for example of what I do want. Will wait to hear. He is trying to get me an update anyways.
Poelbaum Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Just heard back from Jay. Her just got an H110 into his inventory in a VWB which he believes to be a true representation of the finish. It is pretty much what is online, and certainly darker than the one from TGP. Though he did qualify that every guitar is a little different. Attached is a pic from his site.

Doug Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I have to admit, that Vintage Wine Burst is my favorite. If I ever get to the point in my life where I can order a new Heritage, I would almost certainly opt for that finish. Absolutely beautiful - I love the red in there and even prefer it to the cherry burst.

yoslate Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I just acquired this guitar. Arrives Wednesday. Just oozes quality and vintage vibe! A stunner! If that 23d is put together as flawlessly as my 20th Anniversary 150, you've got a lifer there!!! Congrats!
