pegleg32 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 That does provide adequate motivation doesn't it? I am not familiar with Fenton Robison so I think I will go Youtube him right now!!
pegleg32 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Not a great guitar player, but nice tasty leads, and I could sip beer and listen to that voice all night long!!! He doesn't have to scream to tell the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ueuhfr2eEI
Jazzpunk Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Kuz, Do you know what year/model that Gibson is? Curious as I noticed the pups are configured more akin to the 525 whereas the es125's are further from the neck. I had posted a pic of my 525 over on TGP on an es125 appreciation thread. One guy was extremely bothered by the pup location on the Heritage in comparison to the Gibson saying that it was aesthetically 'wrong'. Thought it might be interesting to show him this pic!

No sorry I don't know. 2. Don't worry about what those elitist prima donnas think. You are probably 10x a better player than those that criticized the 525. My experience has been that cats that can "play", could careless about what guitar you play. This guy you are talking about probably can't tune a guitar. DON'T worry about what others think... You are the enlightened one about Heritages!!!!
pegleg32 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 HUH???!!!! Video response oh no, I really like his leads, maybe I should have said he is not a "flamboyant" guitar player. I only wish I could play that well.
Jazzpunk Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 2. Don't worry about what those elitist prima donnas think. You are probably 10x a better player than those that criticized the 525. I don't worry about it that much but I have to admit that it would be satisfying to point out the 'heritage' of the pup configuration! On a more positive note, I took the 525 out to jam last night with my newly acquired Headstrong Royal reverb and it sounded fantastic! Still playing around with drive pedals for the new amp but everything sounded very tasty.
barrymclark Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 My experience has been that cats that can "play", could careless about what guitar you play. That's a fact. If you can bring it, they won't care what you brought it with. If you honestly look at the jazz guitarists out there, many play traditional guitars, for sure. ...but many play Aria Pros, Ibanez, Epiphone, you name it. Solid bodies, hollow bodies, semihollow bodies.
bolero Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 wow that guy kicks ass, and so does his band!! I could listen to those guys groove on the drums/bass/keys all night long....
Gitfiddler Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Not to divert from the original post, but do 525's feedback much at higher stage volumes? Now back to the original topic...That is a killer player and what appears to be a very custom git.
fxdx99 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Smile - thought you were being literal there, Kuz! Pickup location... perhaps due to existing tooling and shift from P90s to humbucker sizing? Feedback - yup, full hollow body so more feedback than a semi. Although I'm surprised at how loud I can play w/the 525 in a band situation (just need to keep that palm muting the bass strings, but very controlable feedback). Man, these are just SWEET sounding guitars. Played mine all weekend - love the sound.
blueox Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 oh no, I really like his leads, maybe I should have said he is not a "flamboyant" guitar player. I'm glad you clarified that. While I've never been a jazz guitar fan, I love it when a blues player plays "jazzy", if you know what I mean. I don't feel jazz, but I feel blues, so when a jazzy lead is played with soul, with soulful vocals within a blues backup, then I'll buy it. Fenton really blurs the line between categories, so it sounds so good, one doesn't care what it's called. I'd have to go and dig down into my "Guitar Player" mag back issues for the info, but Fenton at some point upgraded his ES-225 neck to another one from a high level Gibson arch top. While I dig the high powered blues of Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Otis Rush, and so on, Fenton Robinson really had a unique sound, and I would place his "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" album in my top three of all time. There is nothing out there like it.
hiro Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Nice! Thanks for clueing me into Fenton, that guy has soul.
LH575 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 bump. blues. bump. Fenton has no use for HRWs. He laughs at them. Then he plays some tasty leads and smiles a bit.

Things just now are a bit of a grind at work, and that trash comes home a little, too. Jumped on before going to work this morning, found this bump, and spooled up a little Fenton.... Much, much better! That stuff is where I live! Thanks, man!
