Callaway Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 New to the board but certainly not new to Heritage a proud owner since 1990, I have an cherryburst H-140CM and a brownburst H-535 got them both on the same day on a straight up no money trade with a dealer for a Norlin era Les Paul Custom burst (nice guitar nothing special) which might possibly the one of the best deals of my life, the poor putz thought he really had pulled one over on me I can understand why he won't speak to me anymore. I've played for 40 plus years have truckloads more equipment than I need just like everyone I suppose, I here to learn and contribute when I have something meaningful to say. I will say I'm totally nondenominational when it comes to guitars brands I love em all as long as they have the it factor! My first dealings with the Heritage factory was under less than pleasant circumstances about a month after I got the 140 I was playing a job and our drummer nudged my guitar stand and from 20 ft away I watched my 140 in slow motion fall face first onto the stage...nothing good happens when guitars fall as we all know it snapped the peghead off at the nut instantly a two piece. I called Kalamazoo early early the next morning talked with one of the principles might have been Bill Paige he was extremely helpful and reassuring since I was kind of in shock at the time, I shipped it the same day, they replaced the entire neck for what is chicken feed now days and I had it back in my hands in about a month good as new. It was truly a classy act and masterpiece workmanship on their part they went well out of their way for me and one I won't soon forget. I certainly plan on having further dealings with Heritage but of a much more enjoyably nature this time around.
fxdx99 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi Callaway - welcome to HOC. You really know how to make an entrance - excellent story. Can imagine how you felt seeing your guitar broken, but that the end result in dealing w/Heritage made it all okay in the end. (just a heads up, you'll get a ton of 'where's your pics' in this thread... might as well get the camera out now
smurph1 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome Callaway! I have an old 140 and I can only imagine the nauseous feeling you had as you watched yours fall..glad to hear our boys fixed her up good as new..
Dick Seacup Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome to the Club, Callaway! Great story about how you got in to the Heritages. Are you a golfer, by chance? (just a heads up, you'll get a ton of 'where's your pics' in this thread... might as well get the camera out now Do you remember the early days, when just about every new thread was a "Hi, I'm new here" and there'd be like 20 replies all with the "useless" smiley?
golferwave Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome to the HOC! Your story is exactly what we've been saying about Heritage. No big corporate BS with the boys from Kalamazoo. Just friendly service to the customer. Thanks for sharing!

Callaway Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Well let's see how this will work I was trying to take pics at the same time the family was trying to get Xmas Decorations down and put up I was kind of Mr Popular for a few hours.
Callaway Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 And a shot of his brother from a different mother.
FredZepp Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hey, the pics worked fine... and both are nice. The 140 has a nice classic sunburst look, sweet. And nice top on the Gibby. The 140 is an '89? and the 535....any pics?...
slider313 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome and happy holidays to you. Is that 140 a 2nd edition? It has a rounded cutaway and crown inlay which are not normally found on a 140.
brentrocks Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome Callaway!!! nice pair you have there
Callaway Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Welcome and happy holidays to you. Is that 140 a 2nd edition? It has a rounded cutaway and crown inlay which are not normally found on a 140. It has a G serial number which is a 90 according to the guide. I noticed when I got it back with the new neck it had the same neck radius which is more like a 60 neck than a 59 or earlier neck and inlays it had before my little mishap and had the original serial number stamped on. I have noticed the difference in other Heritage pick guards this one looks like every Les Paul I've ever owned without the slight curve at the base. If it is a second edition it must have been hot on the heels of the first one since I bought it a few months before my son was born and he was born in 90. The 140 was the first model Heritage came out with in 85 correct? I wonder if it's a transitional model between the later 140 and 150? I sent along a full shot neck and body.

Yep I'll have some of the 535 as soon as I can my 140 has a G serial number, I was really pushing my luck with getting these shots when I did, the house was totally up for grabs and a mess decorations all over getting ready for Xmas and I was smack in the middle of it taking pics of my guitars. I think the name dumbass was being thrown around rather liberally and directed in my direction that day several times but I may be wrong LOL. Cheers
Callaway Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 You know when your getting old when I ask my son to take some shots of the 535 and when I walked into the room I had a real senior moment, I noticed a neck with a big block inlay and a black f-hole thinline guitar sitting on the stand he was talking a pic of I drew total blank. Then I remembered a buddy had dropped off a Epi Lucille model I bought at a pawn shop hell two years ago and wanted to see if I liked it, he doesn't play but is a big BB fanatic and thought it was kind of cool. I then went back to the lockup and found the 535 which is below much to my relief.
FredZepp Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 hmm that 535 is a winner....Nice warm finish on it. And it's under the Christmas tree....
brentrocks Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Well let's see how this will work I was trying to take pics at the same time the family was trying to get Xmas Decorations down and put up I was kind of Mr Popular for a few hours. that is a Gibson cut H 150?
Callaway Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 that is a Gibson cut H 150? She's Heritage from the top of her neck down to the better designed input jack (why Gibson still clings to those stupid plastic input plates is crazy), like I said the serial number shows G for the year which indicates 1990 according to the Heritage serial aging chart and the hang tags said H-140CM when I got it in 1990.

Brent is referring to the short period that the cutaway on a 150 was like a Gibby. It is slightly different shape now.. Have you seen the label in the control cavity? says 140? It just seems like this should be a 150... or a 140 second edition (which I thought was later) Or the thickness of the body would indicate which it is.... Sorry if we ask too many details, we just like to be informed about these beauties....

Hey no problem in the least, to be honest I've never popped the plate off the cavity never had any reason but now I grow curiouser and curiouser and can see an excavation sometime today? There should be a label similar to the 535 or a stamp or what should I look for? The reason I questioned it being a reissue was the year I got her it seemed kind of fresh from 1985 to 1990 for having a reissue that's why I wondered if it was some type of transitional type model or a rolling change kind of thing that came between when the 140 and 150 the similarity between this guitar and a Gibson in some ways very very close to much earlier models but in others going by Gibson LP's I've played made during that time period are night and day. I'm kind of in the middle of Heritage wasteland here so I've really had nothing to compare the guitar against. Here to learn guys tell me more!

You should see something like this .... model number, serial #, finish and the pickups are noted on the above example H157 Classic = model V09003 = serial # OSB = finish , Old Style Burst 59s = pickups - Duncan 59s' -------- Just noticed initials under "INC" .... ( maybe GH ? ), possibly the person that finished the guitar ?
