Gitfiddler Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Hey , I like where this thought is going.... if we are going to look at sources of headstock styles that are derived from the most coveted and valuable early Gibson mandolins....... Well then.... Gibson went from the Snakehead to the Pompador head! Hey, isn't it about time we saw another picture of the vaunted Centurion?!
High Flying Bird Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 ........ there's a pun to be made about the vatican, HOC and Latin, but I can't seem to work it out. If memory served it also included a Rabbi & a Southern Baptist preacher.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I always thought it was the actress and the bishop ....
Jazzpunk Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 MAN UP PEOPLE AND GROW A SET! It's just a discussion about asthetics bro. The OP's heart is in the right place. Maybe it's time to lay off the 'roids?!
hiro Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Welcome! LOL at the Gender model part . . . oh man . . . Oh good one! *tears up in laughter* I didn't notice anything about the headstock. When shopping, I realized a Gibson is $1000-$5000 more than Heritage, lower quality, so that means you are paying a extra $1000+ for lower quality Gibson just for the name (oh I hear popularity really helps you play) and the Gibson shaped headstock.
Blunote Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I don't understand the controversy. The headstock looks fine to me. If anything, the truss rod cover could be improved: It looks a bit like something I might cobble together temporarily if I lost or broke an original. Apart from that, the guitars look great. I enjoy GregsGuitar channel on YouTube. He's a great guitarist and demonstrates a lot of different guitar/amp combinations. He has a video with a Heritage LP Flame top that has been modified with a G headstock.

Interesting... I like the regular Heritage headstocks and do like the identity that it evokes. But that one is nice also...

If anything, I'd love to see some sort of signature headstock inlay for each Heritage model but I'd definitely hate to see a change like that! With the Gibby headstock that guitar now looks like a soulless imitation of a Heritage.
Blunote Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks for the welcome! I came across Gregsguitar on YouTube as I was trying to decide what type of guitar I should buy for my first electric. I love acoustic music and have OM and Jumbo style guitars. But I also love smooth jazzy tones from some electrics. Gregor helped me narrow the field. It wasn't until AFTER I fell for the tone of a Millennium, that I noticed he had demo'd some Heritage guitars. God, I wish I could play like that...

I had to have a 525 after hearing his demos. I was hooked! Come to think of it, I should send the man a thank you letter.
Ashareth Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Ciao Bebove e benvenuto! Per la cronaca io sono di Rovigo..... As far as Heritage headstock is concerned, I don't care too much. I believe it's only strange to look at first sight in a H150, because the Les Paul image is so well established in our minds that anything that deviate from a 59 burst is immediately registered as "wrong". I have a H150 and I absolutely love it; I'll tell you more: it would seem strange to me for it to have a different headstock. Only thing I don't like in my H150 is the pickguard, but that is a simple thing to correct With Heritage archtops, I don't feel that sense of "wrong" in the headstock as with a H150; anyway, I believe it's a false problem. And buying a H150 at half the price of a R8 is definitely a nice feature Cheers, Enrico
Buzzel Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 changing headstock's isn't wrong i think cause some headstock just wont fit by the shape of the body. my guitar is a h160v got a really sharp headstock's that is very dangerous. a few times i almost poked someone's his eye out. but the headstock is cool it fits with the guitar. so changing the style of a headstock isn't a great problem to me. here a picture of the 'killing' headstock
FredZepp Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I believe it's only strange to look at first sight in a H150, because the Les Paul image is so well established in our minds that anything that deviate from a 59 burst is immediately registered as "wrong". I think there is truth in that statement. Our minds notice that something has "changed" and are unsure of it.. my guitar is a h160v got a really sharp headstock's that is very dangerous. a few times i almost poked someone's his eye out. This made me laugh a bit, but that is a really sharp headstock.
Buzzel Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 There are some downsides to my Headstock shape. (which is quite sharp) it got a quite sharp edge cause it is so sharp is loses some paint true the years the guitar is on this world. but it isn't a big deal. so my headstock has 2 downsides it kills and its sharp point loses some paint. But.....It a awesome head to!
