Jazzpunk Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Check this out!!! From this gbase listing: CUSTOM SWEET 16 That is one wild headstock (though it's no Centurion!). Love the truss rod cover. Anyone ever seen anything like this?! Just when you thought you had me with the tradition thing I throw you a curve lol. Love finding these one of a kind Heritage guitars! Anyone know anything more about this beauty?
ledzef Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Never seen that pickup before either it's like a Lawrence. Must be records somewhere cause that thing looks totally custom.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 No serial # or Heritage made in Kalamazoo etc. Maybe it literally was customised by the previous owner ? ======================== "Description: Custom SWEET 16 -all solid woods This was customized by the late Jazz Guitar Great Lenny Argese- New Gibson finger tailpiece, and custom shaped headstock, painted back, Rosewood bound pickguard, floating Tom Doyle pickup - 17 degree peghead pitch,25 1/2" scale, 20 fret bound ebony board with mop split block inlays, 5 piece curly maple neck, head veneer with mop Heritage and Sweet 16, 23/4" rim, 16" body, 20 1/4" length, solid carved multiple white bound spruce top, and solid carved multiple white bound maple back, and curly maple rim, single cutaway." ========================

FredZepp Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Excellent Find !!! very cool. the ad says condition.. "Brand New"??? That is one trippy headstock.... quite.... retro.. or .. art nouveau?
SouthpawGuy Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 What's the switch on the body for do you think? Ejector seat, in case the gigs not going too good ? .. couldn't resist
Jazzpunk Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 Ejector seat, in case the gigs not going too good ? .. couldn't resist Now that's an up charge I would gladly pay for!
big bob Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 the headstock binding is a different color than the rest of the guitar. could be a headstock repair.
tulk1 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 That is one wild scratch plate, too! When I look at that headstock the word "nubin's" comes to mind. I'd say the switch is a coil spitter/tap.
slider313 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Looks like a shape used by the original Epiphone Co. on their 1934 Tudor archtop.
Kuz Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Again, Mike way to come through on the historical relevance. That headstock looks fine for archtops, but would look fugly on a solid body (like a 150). Just my opinion......
FredZepp Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Maybe it literally was customised by the previous owner ? Interesting thought, a post-heritage , non-factory customizing..
Gitfiddler Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 With no serial number and a REALLY black stinger, I too think the headstock re-shape is a post factory modification. The rest of the 'Sweet 16' isn't too bad, but it's not for my taste.
Jazzpunk Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 That headstock looks fine for archtops, but would look fugly on a solid body (like a 150). Just my opinion...... My thoughts as well. The Golden Eagle headstock is still king for me! One day...one day.
Jazzpunk Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 Interesting thought, a post-heritage , non-factory customizing.. Here's the guy who did the pup: http://www.tomdoyleguitars.com/_/Guitar_De...%26_Repair.html Maybe he did the headstock too?

Hey, that sounds like a possible story... seems likely to me. I can't remember if Heritage has ever done a non-standard headstock shape , outside the Centurion..
ledzef Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Could try e-mailing Heritage w/pics and see if they can find anything on record.

Yeah John, that headstock is a compliment on an archtop but wouldn't work on a solidbody.
