i have a blues deluxe with the stock pickups (i believe they are the HRW) and was wondering if i should replace these pickups with different ones. I play jazz/jamband/rock/funk type music out of a fender supersonic and a HRD. feedback would be appreciated thanks guys

Unless there is a particular sound that you can't find with the HRWs, I would keep them. They do very well for jazz, and I've heard some clips where they rock pretty hard.

I've got guitars with Schallers, Guild HBs, Dearmonds, Seymour Duncans. They all sound a little different, their own "voice". Remember, the magic is in your fingers! A great guitarist can make anything sound sweet.

I have HRW's in mine and they do the trick for me great for bluesy rock, very mellow for jazz. Unless your looking to upgrade to something hotter, I would personally say those HRW should handle the types of music you described you play.Enjoy.

If you want feedback, try a 575 with the amp on '11'. ;):rofl_mini:

what do you mean by hotter pickups?

I've been married for twenty-six years, now. Wish I could offer some help on this one....

tone is in your fingers. only replace pickups if you really can't get the sound you want out of them. I cringe when I hear people say "i'm gonna order *insert expensive guitar here* and swap out the pickups for this. If you're getting a High end guitar from any maker, they have quality pickups in them. Changing pickup height, angle, and pole pieces can have a significant effect on the sound.

I have guitars with Schaller pickups, Carvin H22n/C22B pickups, Carvin AP11 pickups, SD P 90 pickups, Gibson 57 classics, Gibson 490R/498T, and all of them sound different, some more than others, but I like that. Some are more articulate than others, while others have that great raunchy/fuzzy sound when put through overdrive. If you go within each genre you will notice a variety of different guitars used to achieve a similar sound.

HRWs are hotter wind pickups. At least the ones in my Millie NFH seem to be. The stock schallers in my Prospect can cover jazz, country and classic rock. Never tried metal with them. ???

And you guys are just being silly!!! Move south, pickup trucks! Jeeez, you'd never see me doing that! ;)

FWIW,

I have a pair of HRWs for sale in the marketplace for a VERY fair price.

Anyone feel free to contact me if you are interested.

Thanks,

John

the schallers are GREAT pickups. At least I think they are. I get a great full sound from my 535. it sounds like I WANT it to sound. You'll be changing them out over my dead body.

now, if I recall, someone said they might get microphonic at high volumes/gain situations? then again that's also true for a lot of the 'vintage' pickups which are PAF clones with no wax potting. you could probably do metal with them, but you'll need a noise supressor if they are microphonic. removing the covers should help with that.

they deffinatly don't look like schaller pickups on my heritage blues deluxe they look like ledzef's pick ups on his guitar

pics please, if you pull one of the pups and look on the back you will know.. FYI I have schallers in my H-150 chambered and love them, had them in my 575 and did not? for each application they could be different.

the original 80's kramers had schaller golden 50's and they worked great.

pull the pup and post pics and we can tell you.

schallers and hrw's look the the same on the outside. HRW's are schaller golden 50's that are tweaked by heritage's own rendal wall, thus HRW Heritage Rendal Wall.
