cod65 Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Hallo, I have the stock wooden bridge on my '98 and would love to hear people's experience with an 'upgrade', and to what type. Also considering taking the bigsby off my 158 and moving to the 575 . Any thoughts? I know there will be little holes to have repaired, but is that a deal-breaker ?
big bob Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Hallo, I have the stock wooden bridge on my '98 and would love to hear people's experience with an 'upgrade', and to what type. Also considering taking the bigsby off my 158 and moving to the 575 . Any thoughts? I know there will be little holes to have repaired, but is that a deal-breaker ? I think you will want the Bigsby B6 Bigsby model B6: For thicker (2-1/4" to 4"+) archtop guitars that don't need an additional string tension bar. Distance from center of hinge to bottom is 2-1/8". Distance from center of hinge to string anchor bar is 5". 1-5/16" upper mounting screw spread; distance to lower mounting screw is 1-3/16". Strap button slot is 1/2" x 7/8". what model is on the 158?

I think b7? http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/u..._161_630114.jpg looks like Elderly instruments also recommends the b6. I'm wondering if the 'gretch' version with the wire handle would work - would like to have the wire handle....... also wondering if I can try the wire handle on my b7 (if I can find one as a separate part)

I can imagine that, if you wanted it, you can work with your retailer on getting which ever model you go with to have the wire handle. BTW, I am sure the boys in K'zoo have done a number of Bigsby installs. Might want to hit them up on which model they recommend. They truly have a sound unto themselves. I really like them... but don't really want the bother of having another vibrato system. So... no more of those. I will just enjoy listening to others that do!
cod65 Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 Ya I had Wolfe or heritage install mine on my 158. I'm starting to wonder what it would be like without it, and if there's a way to find out that isnt too intrusive. normally the 158 has the same tail as a 150, IIRC. So it is strong enough for the posts, I guess. but there are no holes for the posts because of the way I ordered it. Another possibility might be some sort of trapeze style ? what do you guys think? Leave well enough alone, or keep mokeying until I break something?
