Other than the smell..... :D

some differences are cosmetic ( headstock and fingerboard inlay) and some are the woods used, which wll affect the feel and sound to a degree.

And you will find some variances in ones available on the market, as Heritage allows custom orders.

the best place to get some accurate details is on Heritage's own site... SEMIHOLLOW Heritage Guitars

555 has an ebony fretboard on a maple neck and the 535 has a rosewood fingerboard on a mahogany neck.

Which may make the 555 slightly brighter...

basically the 555 has more bling. it's got multiple binding on the body, gold hardware, ebony fretboard, curly maple neck, bound headstock, inlaid name and special inlay on headstock, special inlay fingerboard. the 535 has a single bound body, chrome/nickle hardware, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, unbound headstock with painted on logo, and dot inlays.

but as said before, there are custom orders out there, so you'll see a lot of variation.

The 555 used to come with a flame maple neck, but now comes with a Mahogany neck & ebony fretboard.

I personally prefer mahogany over maple necks (I prefer rosewood freboards over ebony too). I was told others also prefer the warmth & smoothness of mahogany, and thus the reason for the change at Heritage.

I understand flame necks are still available as an upcharge option.

You know , I was thinking that this had come up before.. but I wasn't sure.

So I checked on the Heritage site and they say flamed maple w ebony on the 555.

But I just checked the '09 catalog and it does say mahog...

They should maybe correct the site...

Thanks for the heads up..

( I've got both combinations of wood and don't have a preference..... but it does make a difference)

....or an H575!!!

Heritage rules when it comes to non-Bigsby hollowbodies, that is all I'm gonna say about that.

Wait just a minute though. Really, just wait.

Ready?

Not sure you are ready.

Really? You are.

Ok............

Think about this - a 535 or a 555 with some TV Jones pickups.

It ain't right, but you are thinking about it, eh?

And you know it would rock..........
