yoslate Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 So how do I join the HOC now? Mark I think you just did! More pics! Looks like mighty fine lumber in that 575! Pretty color, too! Congrats, and a Merry Christmas indeed, Mark! Just a little tweezing, and that guitar will be fine.
rjsanders Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 congrats here's what my buddy, david, who ships guitars fairly frequently & owns a 137 w/Bigsby, wrote me: I'm a USPS kinda guy myself. They ship Fedex, but they actually pay the insurance if something goes awry. Fedex won't pay anything over $500.
chico Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 Mark instructed me to go ahead and upload the pics he sent, these are of him playing in his living room, he said he'd be joining us later today so look for him to surface.. chico

That is one beautiful guitar!
golferwave Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 All's well that ends well. A really beautiful guitar! Congrats!
JeffB Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Nice looking guitar. worth the wait and "maybe" the anxiety. Glad it worked out alright.
gopeteygo Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Low humidity? Had a Tele like that. Some moisture helped loads. Good to hear the gtr was fine otherwise. Definitely that time of year. Even with the humidifier running in that room it's hard to keep the humidity level up when we're burning wood.
ZAPMAN Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 HELLO HOC MEMBERS: In regard to my good buddy, Chico, informing all of you about the damaged box shipped from Dave's Guitars in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. I opened up the case lid last night, as planned for Xmas Eve, and found no damage to the guitar, not even a scratch! Thank-yah-Jesus. I have never recieved a guitar in a box as damaged as you can see in the pics posted by Ray. I was wondering if my time was due for a smashed guitar? Looks like I dodged another bullet with this one. This is my first Heritage guitar, not the last, this H575's neck feels so good in my left hand and I already feel comfortable with it in my lap. It needs a set-up and I will replace the nut with a bone one plus the frets need to be dressed as along each side/edge of the fingerboard I can feel rough/sharp edges. I was very surprised by this as that is a trait I find with some of the lower end guitars I handle in the music store I teach out of. However soon my guitar Doc will correct this. Also wondering, have any of you hollow body electric owners added a strap button on the back of the neck heal? I have yet to try attaching a strap to each end of this guitar, don't know if I am going to like the string under the strings and around the peg-head thing? Anyway. I sure am glad to be a HOC member! I was so concerned my first Heirtage purchase was to be in vain because of the suspect damage with UPS shipping. Also, no more shipping of a guitar by UPS for me, as stated I narrowly survived this one. I wonder if this cool cat lost one of his 9 lives over this one? I have been inside the Heritage plant twice with MR. Chico and I look forward to attending next summers picnic/party! Much appreciate all of the HOC members concern and well wishes with the arrival of my first Heritage guitar. Thank You...From....ZAPMAN A friend and guitar mentor of mine just purchased that H575 that Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse was selling, got a great deal, he's most excited and hopefully will be joing our little group soon. It's his first Heritage, he's been to the plant with me a couple times over the years and knew about Heritage, but still kept buying those *G* guitars till he got fed up with them, finally decide to get his first Heritage...and.... he went home today at a break (he is a guitar teacher) between students to see if his guitar had arrived, only to find it as seen.. So far, no apparent damage internally but he's waiting till Christmas eve to open the package.. wish him the best! of course, Dave will stand by but hopefully there was no damage to the contents..we'll see.. stay tuned. posted in the interest of showing what CAN GO WRONG shipping, even under meticulous packing.
Kuz Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 congrats here's what my buddy, david, who ships guitars fairly frequently & owns a 137 w/Bigsby, wrote me: I'm a USPS kinda guy myself. They ship Fedex, but they actually pay the insurance if something goes awry. Fedex won't pay anything over $500. Actually, that is wrong. Fed Ex JUST changed their policy. You can now insure guitars for their full value. I just sent 2 guitars in the last two months via Fed Ex and they said their policy used to be only $500 but now you can insure them for full value. Ron Kirn swears by shipping Fed Ex only.
Kuz Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Zapman, Next to Steiner's all time classic 575 that is the best 575 I have ever seen. That top is INCREDIBLE. Play it in good health and keep her clean because if you decide to sell her I am calling "DIBBS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeLorean Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 The fret sprout happens, it is a humidity thing (drier air, the wood shrinks and the frets don't...). Your luthier will be able to correct that in a few minutes. Here in Ohio, I get to do a lot of that, especially in the fall and winter. US Parkers, Modulus, Status and the like (IE non-wood fingerboards, or non-wood neck + fingerboard) don't get this, but they have their own issues to make up for it. As to the strap button, I prefer mine to be on the back of the heel. Heritage recommends a slightly different location, they used to have a JPEG showing where they like the buttons, but that disappeared with the site update a while back. Welcome to the Heritage family, enjoy the 575 while picking out #2... ;-}

golferwave Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Welcome to the HOC ZAPMAN! That is an absolutely beautiful guitar! On your question about the strap button I think Ren at the factory has some instructions on how to best do that without risking damage. Chico may know as well but check with Ren if unsure. Once you get the nut installed and other tweaking done you'll have a tough time putting that beauty down. Keep us posted.

Heritage recommends a slightly different location, they used to have a JPEG showing where they like the buttons, but that disappeared with the site update a while back. I thought so.... Spent a little while last night trying to find that primer on strap button location. I was a bit surprised they removed it. I have a Super Eagle, and I put the button, as DeLorean also prefers, on the back of the heel. Guitar hangs fine. Just remember, if you do it yourself, to wax or soap the screw for the button, before running it into the pilot hole. That makes the screw easier to seat, and it will help prevent the wood's splitting.
SouthpawGuy Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Here you go .... link: http://web.archive.org/web/20070417040909/...+Thick+Body.jpg =========== Maybe this could be uploaded to the Gallery ?
Steiner Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Chico, ZAPMAN (da-da da-da da-da da-da da-da ZAPMAN!) {sorry, couldn't help but think of the caped crusaders} That is a spectacular example of a 575! My model of choice, does it all. Congrats and Merry Christmas! Perhaps a tad late to the party (that's some fast shootin', Southpaw) Here's a photo of our beloved Ren showing the proper technique for a second strap-lock. Ren Wahl strap-lock instalation I prefer the other location shown in SouthpawGuy's photo. This one, shown in the link, gets in the way when reaching for the lower register on the money frets. Rather than drilling another hole, I'm learning to reach around. Always drill a pilot hole first! The proper hole size for a number 6 fastener is 9/64"
ronalr Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 congratulations ans welcome to the HOC ZAPMAN.....that is a beauty...I had talked to Dave's myself about that exact guitar but never pulled the trigger......let me know what you do about the strapin...I have a 575 with out one also and have not decided what to do yet....
hiro Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 cool glad it all worked out . . . my h150 came stock with strap pegs . . . Beautiful guitar . . . I like the Heritage necks, I was kinda leaning towards G&L cuz the Heritage carry a hefty price tag, but the neck really influenced me to get the Heritage.
