I am curious..After i replace the 25 year old Grovers on my 140, I may go with a Gibson type bridge and tailpiece..I've heard it said that the roller Schaller system kills the tone of the guitar. Have you had this experience? When you put a Gibson type bridge and tailpiece on your 140 did it make a big difference..? How about a Tone Pros system? Does that work? any input would be appreciated..thanks Smurph..

Depends on what you call "tone". The bridge is part of the tone. Whether or not it is worth a flip is up to the individual hearing it. I just have never bought there is a 'bad' tone. There is just tone you like and don't. Anything you do to the original configuration can change the tone. Even a refinish or changing out control pots. If you really like the tone you are getting, leave it alone. If you are wanting more sustain or something, then yes, a bridge change can very well put you down the right path particularly with a TonePros from what I have seen. That is a tightly designed bridge system.

My 2 cents.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. It wasn't so much tone but sustain that the roller bridges supposedly rob. But... Heritage used them for HOW many years? Schaller has sold them for how many years? If they were crap, they would have stopped appearing long ago. Schaller also makes TOM style bridges and tailpieces. If you switch to those you probably won't have to get the bushings pulled.

It really isn't broke..I get lot's of compliments on the tone..People say it is full and rich..so maybe I'll just put new tuners on it and call it good..Thanks for the input..

I put Duncan Seth Lovers and a Tone Pros bridge and stop bar tail piece on my 140.

Guitar sounds great. I'm sure the pickups made a difference but not sure if the bridge and tail piece had any influence.
