Guido Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum and I am just in the process of buying a H-150CM. This is going to be my first heritage and I am not so familiar, so I have a few questions you can hopefully answer me. The guitar is from 1993 (J serial number). The guy says it's in excellent condition, with only minor playwear. So here are my questions: - I heard the newer ones are closer to G*** specs and are better than the older ones. Is this correct? - It looks like a 2 piece top to me and a one piece back. Any other suggestions? - The back of the headstock is painted black. I have only seen headstocks without the paint. Is this still normal? - What kind of pickups are most likely in the guitar? Schaller or HRW? - The guitar is unfortunately without a case. Does anybody know a dealer in Europe (2nd choice USA) where I can buy a case? - The guitar will cost me 900.- Euro (1300$). Is this high priced? Here is a link with some pics: http://www.oldenburger-music-station.de/Heritage-H-140.htm Thank you already for your answers and replies! Happy New Year, Guido
tulk1 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Hi Guido and welcome to the HoC. That is a very pretty guitar you're looking at. BTW, that is an H150, not an H140. The 150 is characterized by the softer horn and no scarfing on the back. You could always pull the control plate and verify. The black headstock with stinger was normal in that period. I think they're kinda cool. Single screw in the pickup surround means most like the pickups are SD '59s, considering the age of the guitar. Very nice for that guitar. And if they haven't been swapped out. Looks good for that price. It would bring $1300US here. As for closer to Gib specs .... uh, Heritage guitars are hand made by the guys who hand made Gib guitars. Gibs should be so lucky as to be close to Heritage specs. Build quality always varies in handmade guitars. But I would expect that '93 model to be just as good as a current production. And it has some mojo to it, besides. Nice find. Let us know if you get it.
FredZepp Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Hello Guido, I agree with all of the answers above..... The black on the back of the headstock is a stinger and I like them also, not that they make any difference. It looks like a 2 piece back to me also, which is normal. That one has a really sweet looking top on it.. ... had to resist it. The idea that the new ones are closer to Gibby's specs is not true, except maybe for the hardware. You'll love that one. Set up the action on the neck and you are ready to go....
Guido Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 It looks like a 2 piece back to me also, which is normal. Yes I thought so myself if you look at the neck end of the back. The darker line looks like a match line. But if you look at the other end of the back, it looks like a one piece to me. So I think the dark line at the neck end is just from the wood, but I am not sure about it. But the way: the guitar is reserved for me. I won't post this beauty without making sure that I am the only one who will get it!
SouthpawGuy Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 €900 for a 150 in Europe is a good price, new ones go for €2000 - €2500.
FredZepp Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 But if you look at the other end of the back, it looks like a one piece to me. So I think the dark line at the neck end is just from the wood, but I am not sure about it. But the way: the guitar is reserved for me. You may be correct about the back... It might just be the wood grain that I see. In any case, it is a beauty and I hope you can start enjoying it soon.....
yoslate Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 NICE color on that 150. Very, very vintage looking top! Good choice! Welcome, Guido....
rooster Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Looks beautiful. Seems like a good price to me. Good Luck! rooster.
mark555 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 The black painted headstock, or "stinger" as it has been correctly called in this thread was also painted on Gibson guitars in the past, but only the more expensive models. I believe this to be the case, but I am willing to be corrected if I am wrong. By the way, it's a nice guitar, and from a Brit's point of view, 900 Euro's is a very good price, I would snap the guitar up right away for that price. As far as cases go, you can buy a "Gator" case which is designed for Gibson Les Paul's for about £55 over here in England, I am sure that they must be available in Germany, or an equivalent after market case will be available. Welcome to the forum, keep us informed.
Gitfiddler Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Guido~ Did you notice the white Heritage H-357 'Firebird' Oldenburger Music has for sale? It looks sweet! Oops, it's on 'hold' already!! H-357
Guido Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 I want to thank you all for your nice and warm welcome!!! I have been searching a few forums lately and also posted in some. But I have never experienced such a nice welcome and so many replies in a short time! So really thank you guys

I have a gator case already. It's a good case for the money. But I want an original case. It's a kind of my fetish, that everything must match. Maybe I join the heritageownersclub journey to Kalamazoo some day and then I can't show up with a heritage in a gator case, right?! Maybe they can be ordered direct from the factory or via wolfeguitars?

Hit them at the right time on the right day and they can be very accommodating. Failing that, almost any dealer should be able to order you a case for your H150. Altho' I'd suspect they aren't cheap. And we'd love to have you join us at the PSP picnic. You'd probably win for "longest distance", assuming Tully hasn't started walking here yet.
mark555 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 You'd probably win for "longest distance", assuming Tully hasn't started walking here yet. Ten miles west of Ireland heading for the east coast, 555 case wrapped and waterproofed, attached and being towed. The water is freezing, the waves are high, the wife is really doing well to swim so far.....

Guido Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 So guys I did it! The H-150 is mine. Bought it yesterday evening. Now you can really welcome me in the club! It will take a week till I hold this beauty in my hands. I am so excited. Jay from wolfeguitars already answered me regarding the case. He has several knew ones and a clean used one. The only problem so far is the shipping price to germany. It's just to expensiv: 125$. So I will first see if I can get a case in Europe. But I am again impressed how quick he answered me. It looks like there is really a one big heritage family out there. And now I am a member of this family!!! When the guitar arrives I will post some pics and share it with you.
FredZepp Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Congrats Guido !!! I am sure you will love your Heritage from good old Kalamazoo...
mark555 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Welcome Guido! Yet another disciple of true discernment has joined the flock, and what a great bargain he got considering the lack of Heritages in Europe.. (Also the guitar in itself is terrific.....)
mark555 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Hope you asked her to stop and take a few pics of Galway Bay, it's quite the scenic spot. I will ask her to do so, if she has a waterproof one, it would be a good idea as our ancestors are from Galway... My Surname is Fahey, how Irish is that?
