LH575 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I did a search for "soundpost" and got a couple hits. Seems this works to reduce feedback. My 575 loves to howl. I actually like a bit of controlled feedback, but this one howls a bit too much. Has anyone soundposted a 575? I have a Electromatic 5120 that has the soundpost, but it is plywood and poly-finished. Apples oranges. I'm wondering what the cost would be to install one. Has got to be pretty cheap, doesn't seem to be much to it. Anyways, any info, experience with the post would be great! Thanks, 575LH575

You may try rubber tubing, as on Fender's pickups. Have you checked the bracing of the top for placement of a post? Unfortunately no mention of bracing type on the mfg website. Violins, violas, cellos, and double basses use the soundpost to couple the top to the back, and the placement affects the tone; LINK. Gretsch used "trestle bracing" in their Chet and Anniversary models. Good Luck on your repairs, and please post your progress. jamie
big bob Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 my 575 howled alot too. I ended up changing the pups to duncan p-rails. sounds great now.
LH575 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Thanks guys. I put in an email to Heritage to get their opinion. I'd like to hear those P-rails. My 575 has the Lollar humbucker-shaped P90s. These sound great. The luthier I use says $80 for the soundpost. Seems reasonable. Lollar humbucker-shaped P90s
LH575 Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 So, I talked to Ren about it. There is a concern with cracking the solid carved top and back with a soundpost. He suggested foam in the f-holes. I put some foam in the the bass-side f-hole and it did the trick.
