buddolan Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Could anyone out there tell me how Heritage identified their "factory second " guitars? I've seen references to the head stock being stamped "2nd" or "BMG", but nothing definitive. Anyone have the real scoop on what has been used over the years? Thanks.
yoslate Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I think if you hang here a while, you'll hear the definitive word. My observation: I have a 1990 576; it is stamped with a "2" top-center, back of the headstock. I simply cannot find why this guitar might be a "second."
Thundersteel Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Welcome to the H.O.C.! Got any pics? It's just about mandatory, ya know! ;D
Yankeefan01 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 My '85 H140 has a BGN stamped above the serial number. Don't see anything that sticks out as a major problem but over the years it may have been corrected.
Mikenov Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 My new Gold H150 is a factory 2nd. It has a 2 stamped under the serial #. Is there anyway to figure out why its a second? I have looked at hertiage guitars that weren't seconds with finish flaws so my guess is its not a finish issue. Any insight into this is appreciated.
MacDoggie Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Okay, this brings up several questions: ??? ??? 1. Where are people finding the seconds to buy? 2. How deeply are they discounted? 3. How "flawed" are they? Typically a used Heritage can be reduced by up to 25% with no notable issues. Is this a comparable savings? Inquiring minds want to know...
Dick Seacup Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Welcome to the Club! Check this page out. There's a link called "Understanding Factory Seconds, Factory Bargains and Special Runs." Seems reasonably accurate.
SouthpawGuy Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 There is one dealer who openly advertises that he has factory seconds, you could contact him for more info. I bought my Millie from him, it was used though not a second, and the deal was good. http://www.stringcollector.com/
