Stupid amp trick...

Here's a tip in follow up to my Polytone story. Anyway, the weak link was the reverb. I repaired the broken spring anchor but still had an issue with a hiss that varied with how far I cranked the reverb knob and was independent of the volume. I could get a slight-but-pleasant "ping" at about "2" on the dial but after that the hiss was annoying. Googled the problem and came up with a bunch of way-beyond-my-capability solutions except for one: Flip the reverb tank. Seems on some amps the tank acts like an antenna and by flipping the tank the antenna characteristics are altered and the offending interference dampened (my simplistic restatement of a more complex reality). Hmmm...well it worked for me. Can now crank the reverb past "4" which takes me from ping to full boing, and I can get into too-drippy-for-surf territory with just a little bit of noise. Hope this helps someone. 'Scuse me while I go crank up Walk Don't Run...;)

Gary Croteau (Juke Amps) suggested i try cutting a thin piece of masonite (or similar) just large enough to fit inside the tank bag, then rescrew it in. sweetens it up just noticeably.
