535 gig bag

I got a gig bag with my Alvarez acoustic. It's semi hard, has a zippable pocked. Back straps, combo lock, humidty sensor. That thing is sweek and protects my guitar about as good as a hard shell. I would deffinately trust a gig bag. The hands free thing is key when you are humping gear in and out of a place.

My 2 cents..I would rather make an extra trip than carry my 140 in a gig bag..Just ain't worth the risk..IMHO :D

have an InCase that i'm confident enough to use w/my Millie DC. they look unobtainium now, but the Reunion looks promising...

I only use Gig Bags & my main axe is a H535. My orig. hard cases are in storage. Leaves my hands free to carry stuff AND I ride a Motorcycle. Kinda "interesting" when over 80mph!

Call me if you wanna deal on a gig bag for H535. (shameless plug) With Heritage's big peghead angle, one has to be mindful & careful.......or.....OMG my headstock just fell off!!!

Hi Jay,

I also ride a motorcycle. I have a gig 3 days a week at the same place so once I get set up, I take the motorcycle to the gig. Especially in the summer. I didn't mention that as one of my reasons for looking for a gig bag. I figured it would make some heads explode! You have the luxury of being able to ride year round in Florida. I'm jealous.

BTW I've bought 3 guitars from Jay and would buy 3 more tomorrow if I had the cash.

Smile - +1 more guit-biker (well, Minnesota so 3/4 of the year). Solid bodies in gig bag fit in the saddlebag. Semis over the shoulder with the neck downward facing and wind resistance somewhat secured by the saddlebag behind it. Now, it's a Harley, so I'm not racing around doing 80 like Jay's Ducati, but the bag keeps the guitar safe as long as I keep the bike upright (and the strap stitching/clamps hold).

It's finding that lightweight amp to bolt on the ghostbracket that I haven't pulled the trigger on yet...

+1 for Reunion Blues gig bags.

I saw Paul Jackson Jr. carry two of his signature Gibson semi-hollow guitars in a well worn looking leather RB 'double gig bag' on his back as he set up to play.

Did you know that Ibanez sells their latest Benson archtop model GB15 with both a hard case AND soft gig bag? And it certainly is NOT as durable as the Reunion Blues products, but nice for a working musician to stuff a fine jazz box in.

Personally, I've had too many guitar mishaps WITH hardcases. Also I'm 6'3" and making it through a doorway with a long neck gitfiddle strapped to my back is asking for headstock decapitation! :icon_tongue:

You might want to check this out - a 335 in an RB Continental bag, coming down a baggage carousel. Scared me, but it works.

I had one, but the 575 was just a bit too narrow, so there was a little slide room. I felt it should have fit snugly. I could be wrong on that.

I went back to my Metro case now, and I am happy.

That was a nice narative. I liked this part best:

(note I didn't use my own guitar, I may be crazy but not stupid!)

Guitar cases are excellent but I am always concerned that my guitar may be damaged if the case is dropped or falls accidentally from any height. I do not have such worries when using my RB bag.

Thanks for the kind words. We once produced a t-shirt with a Wolf character on a 1938 Franklin chopper with a large Gig bag on his back. the gig bag has a decal "PLAY LOUD" on it. I may reissue this classic this summer, as it's my favorite.

I'll see if I can find the art in file form. I rode to steady Gigs in the 60's on my '65 Triumph Bonny in New Orleans. Got caught in the rain, cold, heat, etc often, but the memories are priceless.

What are you guys doing with your guitars that a gig bag wouldn't protect it? I've had two friends set their guitars down behind their cars and then drove over them. Guess what? The hard shell cases didn't protect them. If your gonna get drunk and/or high and do stupid stuff nothing is going to protect your guitar from you. If you use reasonable precautions when transporting your guitars a gig bag is just fine.

I have a BMW R1200RT that I used to occasionally ride to gigs but I found that I couldn't relax at the gig because I was too worried about the bike. I live State College, home of Penn State University, recently voted number 1 party school. I have seen kids jump on bikes and even knock them over at 2:00 A.M. I have since also purchased a Kawasaki KLR 650. It's a dual sport bike that I put crash bars on. Now I ride it to the gig and don't worry nearly as much.

Sorry I didn't call you about a gig bag Jay. With all the nice guitars you have I sort of pictured you as a case only kinda guy.

reminds me, my Andrew Sacco archtop came w/custom non-hard (don't know how else to describe it, but it's pretty impressive) case by "Modern Case Company". not much of a web presence, but i take it they're in Bessemer, MI. might be worth a look around...
