LH575 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I'm thinking I might want to put a Bigsby on my 575, but the thought of drilling new holes in it - I'm wondering if a custom mounting plate could be made to fit the existing H tailpiece holes. Well, I'm sure it can, just how to go about it. Had anyone here has a customer mounting plate made for a tailpiece? Wonder what the cost would be?

Well, I'm sure it can, just how to go about it. Had anyone here has a customer mounting plate made for a tailpiece? Wonder what the cost would be? Don't do it!!! Get a Gretsch instead! Just kidding...it's your guitar. As strange as this might sound, you might want to check out the Gibson forums for hollow body guitars (regarding installing a Bigsby on an ES 175)...some time ago, there was a thread addressing installation of a Bigsby, and I gave the same response. The reason I mention this is because the various responses were VERY descriptive with how to install, and with what Bigsby model that would make it as painless as possible.
LH575 Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 "Get a Gretsch" That is the problem. I did! Now when I go back to the 575, my hand starts looking for the Bigsby. I just has to have one now! Thanks Tim.
bolero Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 on a 575 can't you install a floating bigsby? = no drilling?
mark555 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 on a 575 can't you install a floating bigsby? = no drilling? Was going to suggest the same thing, I have seen plenty of floating Bigsby's. I think that once you start drilling holes in your 575 you are going to devalue it terribly and also make it less desirable from a selling on point of view. But, if you are going to keep it, and you want it specifically to match your playing style, then you have a guitar that is individual for your needs and taste. Let us all know what you do and post the before and after pics. Good luck.

Thanks Tim. Well, the post on the Gibson forum is VERY descriptive and involves installation of a Bigsby B6(?). I'm not a Bigsby fan so I'm not sure, but this post included photo's and step by step instructions (again, for an ES 175, NOT an H575)...for what it's worth..
