GuitArtMan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 My son and I popped into Buffalo Brothers this afternoon. He walks right up to this and says it's the most beautiful guitar he has seen: He says that's what he wants to learn on. Played nice with a nice shaped neck. Dig the black binding - nice touch. Didn't care for the toggle being moved or the rearanging of the volume/tone controls as I'm a traditionalist there. Also a bit heavy, but I'm getting old and like light guitars. One of his comments craked me up "and it's a real Les Paul". I haven't even trained him to be a Heritage fan yet! Also played this one - Roy Clarke signature 535: This one played real nice and was super resonant - but then aren't all 535s? They had some jazz boxes as well, but I bumped into my amp tech whom I hadn't seen in a while and burned up much time talking with him and so didn't get to play everything I wanted to.
mark555 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I notice that neither guitar has a stinger, and in my opinion they both look far better for not having one. The beauty of the wood us allowed to show through. Does any one agree with me?
High Flying Bird Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I lift my glass to Buffalo Bros. I traded an H-137 custom for the H-475. I only took a few hundred dollars beating on the deal but I had to have the 475. Marv told me it was one of only 5 or 6 made. It is a "2" but the reason is beyond my guitar whisperer skills. The 137 was commissioned a "Custom" when I had Tommy Shepherd put the Bigsby on it. A sweet guitar that I couldn't bond with. You could play the dog shit out of Powderfinger on that thing though. Wow, having one's child go wacky over a Heritage. That is "The Heritage" my friends.
chico Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 check out the headstock on the red H157, no binding, diamond inlay, MOP 'the heritage'.... KILLER!
GuitArtMan Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 check out the headstock on the red H157, no binding, diamond inlay, MOP 'the heritage'.... KILLER! The 157 was quite strinking. The black binding was unique and added to the look. My son's got good taste in guitars! Of course, then we went to another shop and he drooling over the skull and cross bone graphiced shredder guitars!!!
FredZepp Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 lots of striking guitars in this post. The 157 is uber-cool and HFB's guitars are really sweet.

The beauty of the wood us allowed to show through. Does any one agree with me? Yes and no. Does it make them look better? Yes, I think so, but it also makes them slightly less versatile. I very rarely touch my bigsby o nmy Gretsch but when I'm playign my Tele and I reach for that bigsby only to fidn that it's not there...

But it really, really doesn't make even much of an appearance difference either way... back of the headstock and all. Wouldn't change my admiration of these either way.
rjsanders Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 love the look of that 137 w/Bigsby. friend of mine has one. holds its intonation pretty well, too

tsp17 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Buffalo Bros is one of the finest shops in the country. i live about 30 minutes away from there and visit way too often. luckily i also work near their sister shop in san diego (Old Time Music) and will be there today demoing a 575 custom with HRW's. if i come home with it, i'll post a picture, but most of you have probably seen it on the BB site. peace

Is that the one in Hillcrest or City Hieghts or somesuch? When did they become a sister shop to Bufallo Brothers? Do they have any inventory?
Foggy Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Old TIme Music? Is that the one in Hillcrest or City Hieghts or somesuch? When did they become a sister shop to Bufallo Brothers? Do they have any inventory? Nice shop, nice staff. A large inventory of acoustic instruments; not as many electrics, at least the last time I visited 6 months ago. Hmmm. A 575 Custom? I might have to go for a drive!

Do they have any inventory? yes, on University around 28th or so. I think that neighborhood is north park. going there in about an hour. they were struggling and about a year or so ago. BB bought the assets. I'm glad they did. Old time is a great shop with terrific people. Phil and Tom are great. If you go in see if you can get Phil catch Phil playing. they also have some cool concerts and clinics from time to time. Some good teaching staff too. Wayne Riker, Dan Papaila and others teach there. BB rotates some stuff through there and you can get them to bring BB stock down to Old Time. That's what i did for the 575 i mentioned. will be playing it shortly.

GuitArtMan Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 here is the website http://www.sdoldtimemusic.com/ OK - thanks! I don't make it up to Bufallo Brothers very often as it about 30-40 minutes one way depending on traffic. I'm probably about 5-10 minutes from Old Time. Plus I'm in that area more often.
hiro Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I saw on Buffalo Bro's website they have events running and most of them are in Old Time music.
tsp17 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 just got back from old time. picking up my new 575 custom this afternoon. question: i got significantly lower volume out of the bridge pickup. my other 575 has only a neck pickup, so can you guys tell me if that is a sign of trouble or normal?

My used two pickup 575 was the same when I received it. Possibly the previous owner only used the neck pickup, not sure. I raised the bridge pickup up and lowered the neck pickup to match and all has been well since.
