EdPero Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 On my three Heritage axes (built in the 90's) I can see the same problem about the binding, it seems the wood is a bit retracted. But I'm more worried about the colour of the mahogany on Big Bob's guitar : It's too clear, like there's not enough varnish on the body ! What do you think ?

But where I'm more worried is the colour or the mahogany on Big Bob's guitar : It's too clear, like there's not enough varnish on the body ! What do you think ? Different woods take stains differently, i.e., Maple v Mahogany. It's all good. Nothing is amiss there.

EdPero Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 This varnish seems to be very transparent. Is it nitro ? Anyway, I love the color of your Guitar's top Big Bob ! Is it a custom one ?

Kuz Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 The maple cap that shows below the binding is called "The moon". I too had this question several years ago and e-mailed Heritage. The said that all the vintage Gibsons were made that way as well. It is perfectly normal, and I guess even desired because it is more vintage-like.
hiro Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 yeah mine was like that pic Big Bob showed . . . when comparing the H150 vs the LP, I saw how junky the LP one looked and even though my H150 has darker wood and a darker piece that meets the binding as its a old style sunburst.

I like it to be called "the moon". The more I play my heritage, the more I fall in love. My wife is already jealous! I only had two MIJ LP's before the heritage. The last one was an Edwards E-LP-130. It is a 1300$ guitar and now it sounds, plays and feels like a toy compared to my H150. God, I am really in love!!!
