stillman Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi guys, I can't claim to be a heritage owner *yet*, but I've heard absolutely brilliant things about them and I'm trying to find one here in the UK. They seem pretty rare but i've found a second-hand ad with a picture of a H575 (which is the model I'm after) allegedly made in the mid-90s . However the pickups don't look like any of the ones I've seen on new or other second-hand H575's. So, I'm wondering if these are original or not... The guy selling it got it from some house clearance and doesn't have a clue about the history, so I'm hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on it. Here is a picture Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers
SouthpawGuy Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 They could be high output Schallers, best way to find out is to remove them. Check the label inside the guitar it might tell you more. . The bridge is also non standard, maybe it was a custom order ?
smurph1 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Looks a little unusual to me..But you never know, it might sound great..If you can, Go down and play it!!
stillman Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 Thanks SouthpawGuy, I hadn't even noticed that the bridge was different The guitar is unfortunately the other side of the country and the guy knows nothing about guitars, he might try and remove them with a claw-hammer. I'll see if I can get any more info from the label. Will it say on the label inside the guitar if it's custom? I don't suppose Heritage have a database of serial numbers that would say what the configuration is?
stillman Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 UPDATE - for any of you out there who might be interested... The guy had a word with his business partner who knows the guy who owned it - so the pickups and bridge are not modded and are the ones that he bought it with from new originally. So maybe it was a custom model, but not for the guy that ended up buying it! And still no clearer as to what they actually *are* though! And the year is 1993. I'm going to try and find time after work to jump on a train cross-country and go and have a play on it - it'll be a late night train back to London but I'm intrigued by how it'll sound now..

It they are stock then my bet, i.e. guess, is for some form of Schaller although EMG selects were used on some guitars at one point, they would be the passive variety and to be honest not the best pickups in the world. the pickups seem to have three mounting screws which might help narrow the model / brand down a bit. Often the pickup type fitted is written on the label. i.e. "59s" = Duncan 59s.
DC Ron Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 You can read any label on the back of the bridge pickup very easily (and safely) by using a dental mirror and flashlight. Just remember that the reflect image is sdrawkcab.
cod65 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 looks like all-black EMGs from here. maybe a trick of the light.
mark555 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 High output pic ups on a 575 seem to be big mismatch to me, but from one brit to another here, yes, Heritage are as rare as the proverbial rocking horse stuff in England. I also have trouble finding Heritage guitars I like, they are just not out there, and the serious guys who know what they are won't part with them when they have them. The first thing that comes to mind is that it seems a bit odd that someone would say they got the guitar in a house clearance. Whoever bought that guitar would surely not let it go so easily for what he would get in such a situation? If you are unsure about buying it, but can't find what you want, why not get one from Jay Wolfe in Florida? He has a great reputation, is rock solid and knows how to export. Good luck with it anyway, if you want the guitar, you can always change the pick ups and get an original bridge from the factory, they could post that to you without any problems. where in the UK are you? It's good to know there are more Heritage enthusiasts here.
tulk1 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Could they possibly be these? Schaller Golden 50s Super. And I think the 575s had the ToM bridge as an option.
stillman Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Hi guys, thanks very much for your replies, it's great that this forum is so helpful i think it's definitley worth trying out, the only problem is finding time to get there. bloody day jobs! i've read things about Jay Wolfe and it all seems to be good reports, if i can find the money for a new one i might think about that option. btw mark i'm down here in London where there are no Heritages at all, or more likely as you say, noone who has one is selling it! (PS: re. the house clearance, that was a red herring, when i rang again turns out the guy i talked to *works* for a house clearance company but is selling it for his partner's mate who is internet-phobic, so i believe the info to be true that pickups and bridge are stock)
