peterbright Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Just picked up one of these & am looking for pickup replacement options. I have 3 single cut solid bodies (H-137 TV & 2 Gibson Les Paul Juniors) with P90's & want to replace the existing humbucker in the 120 with another humbucker. Any suggestions?
big bob Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 this would be original equipment, lawrence design high output. I think you will like it Pics please. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Gibson-Parts-N...f#ht_1411wt_935
peterbright Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks big bob. Pics when it arrives.
peterbright Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Waiting is killing me! I'm thinking about SD P-Rails with the SD pickup cover that has 2 mini switches in it.
brentrocks Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Waiting is killing me! I'm thinking about SD P-Rails with the SD pickup cover that has 2 mini switches in it. the SD tripple shot pup ring.....those are super cool!!!
peterbright Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 I've heard that soldering one of those to the underside of the pup sometimes requires more depth in the pup rout. Any idea if this would be a problem with a normal Heritage rout?
peterbright Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 She arrived & sounds great. Maple 2 piece body, bolt on 3 piece maple neck, Shaller Roller Bridge, Semour Duncan SH-4 Jeff Beck pickup (16.4 k DC resistance!). It has a Push/Pull volume pot and the pickup sounds great in both positions. I've played it through a Fultone OCD pedal into both a Fender Deluxe Reverb and an Orange Tiny Terror Combo with an extra 1x12" speaker cab. It screams! The seagulls are hiding as we speak. One of the previous owners stripped the white finish from the body but did not touch the neck. It's at the luthiers right now getting a new paint job. What color you ask? You won't know until you see the after pics. The luthier had never seen a bolt necked Heritage before and was impressed with how it sounded acoustically.
brentrocks Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 thats great...i was thinking the same thing......buy it, have the body rfined, good move, IMO
peterbright Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 I still won't have much in it & it will look great & sound great. The luthier was familiar with the Lawrence designed Marauder pups & believes the SH-4 sounds better. I saw a dual P-rails installation he was working on & they look far better in person compared to the pictures.
FredZepp Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 This should be interesting... And , of course .. even the bolt-on's have the Kalamazoo magic. Can't wait to see the end result.
big bob Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 the lawerence pups were GREAT in the 120 I refinished .. real aggressive..
79Patriot Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The sh-4 sounds great in that particular guitar.
79Patriot Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I cant wait to see the color. What do you think of the volume knob?? I have not saw a 120 with the same knob
peterbright Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Luthier is waiting for less humidity to start the color coats. Waiting is the hardest part.
brentrocks Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 i feel your pain...my H 120 is becoming a nightmare to paint myself....just bout ready to give up the ghost
DC Ron Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 can't believe I'm the first to note that "This thread is worthless without...PIX!"
SouthpawGuy Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 can't believe I'm the first to note that "This thread is worthless without...PIX!" You guys are seriously slipping !
peterbright Posted March 20, 2010 Author Posted March 20, 2010 As soon as I get back from LA, I'll be checking it out.
FredZepp Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 It will be nice to see how the refin turned out... If you end up changing the pu's , consider some Sheptone PAF's ... great sound and well priced . ShepTone Humbuckers w demo ( or Tom Short pickups, as recommended by others here ) Tom Short Pickups TomBucker
peterbright Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Hard to take pic of my imagination. Color coats "may" be completed today & I can see her tomorrow. First whitewash coat didn't turn out good enough for the luthier so he resanded her down & started over.
