How's it going everybody? Well I have owned at least 1 guitar for over 20 years. Over the past 2 years I have gotten serious about playing blues , practicing everyday for hours. It's going well and I want to start playing some gigs pretty soon. Well back to "The Heritage". I recently acquired a 445 acoustic from my father. He had gotten it back in the late 80's at American Music in Smyrna, Ga. , he new the manager of the store and the manager told him it was the best playing guitar that they had in the store , actually it was the exact one that the manager played in his spare time , they sold quality instruments and he could have played any brand he wanted but he insisted this was the best one. Well I did some work for my dad and he said I could have the guitar as payment , great deal as I was not expecting anything at all. The nut was damaged so I bought a cheap one at the local music store and it is back in business. I am very happy with the guitar as it is but I had a few questions that maybe you can help with. Would it make much difference to get a bone nut or something upgraded from the plastic one I have now? Would it be worth the money to have it professionally set up , the action is not as nice as my Martin but I am not sure if someone could adjust it to make it better or not? Is this acoustic comparable to a Gibson model , if so what model would it be? I hope I did not bore you with the long introduction to my guitar.

Thanks , Rick

YES YES YES.

Get the good nut, have the action professionally adjusted, and you will have one of the finest acoustics built. Awesome tone, great volume out of that little wood box too. I have a HFT445, and I wouldn't let it go for the world. And if you decide you don't want that, I get first dibs!

PS I live in the northern climate with lots of furnace running during the winter and low relative humidity. So I keep a moisturizer in the case with the guitar during the winter...

welcome to the club, BTW! The salesman at the guitar store your dad got his HFT445 at knew what he was talking about.

I put the tone and playability right there with a Martin D35.

HFT 445 is a great acoustic!! i would put it up against my Wechter any day! Where do you live? i have a guy that is great with flattops and achtops...he would get that baby setup right!

congrats on the Heritage!!!!

Welcome BullDaddyBlue,

Many feel that a Bone nut is a helpful tone upgrade, although it may sound great with the plastic one also. But your comments about the action decide the issue. If you have any doubt that this beauty is set up to play at 100%, it is well worth the investment to make sure that it is. You will thank yourself for the decision.... And it shouldn't be too expensive either.

i've had one for several years. had it set up by CBP. sounds & plays comparable to my '70 Martin D-28 (long gone) and blew away a '00's top-o-the-line Taylor. bone nut is recommended & helps, but is more subtle than, say, the right set of strings (i like Pyramids)

Welcome to the HOC...sounds like a very nice acoustic you have there....I have not played a Heritage acoustic...but if they are anything like the electrics.....you have an outstanding guitar!!!!

Below is the 445 I sold to Steiner last year. Below it is my 475 that caused me to sell the 445. The 445 is one hell of an instrument. Welcome to the forum.

Tanks Boird! You sold me a stellar guitfiddle! Where else could I get a photo so well shot! Let me know when that 475 is ready to fly the coup.

Welcome to the bin Rick. You've an awesome foundation; take it to a good luthier and your playing will become true bliss!

If you play open string chords/notes, a bone nut may make a difference.

If most of the notes you are playing are fretted, the frets become the dominant factor and the nut is not really in the picture.

Welcome!

I missed buying one of those recently. The one thing that made it bearable is that a friend of mine was able to get it. ( I get first dibs on his)

I have a 1973 Gibson J-50 dlx (similar) Idded the Bone nut = sounded much better. The I added a Bone Saddle = even better, finally added Ivory bridge pins = wonderful tone! I don't understand why quality guitar manufacturers us plastic for the great acoustics. ($$$ I'm sure) My point = change all three tone sucking items out of the guitar and replace with bone, innexpensive upgrade that you'll never regret.

Welcome to the HOC.

Personally I have never seen or heard acoustic Heritage.

Why he one stopped their production?

when i asked Jim Deurloo that a few years ago, he said that the guy who did those had retired in the '90's and they hadn't found anyone good enough to replace him yet

Nice!

Great acoustics!

Laffs on the "Oh that guitar sucks, but I'll do you a favor and buy it off of you" jokes

I was surprised of the few Heritage acoustics people have, would be nice to get one . .. although I'd rather get a expensive and good classical guitar instead if I was going to get anything acoustic . . .
