SouthpawGuy Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I received the 535 SSB a couple of days ago, and for the first time in a long time I got my camera out. It is a real beauty ! The pickups and hardware were changed from the stock Schaller to Duncan P-Rails with the triple shot switching and Gotoh hardware. The work was done by Pete Moreno, courtesy of Brent. If I do say so myself it is a fine looking geetar !
Steiner Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Looks like you've found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! A sweet guitar standing tall next to the tweed - a classic shot! Next year's calendar girl
Guest tomdread Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Beautiful flame on that top. Nice addition to the collection.
fxdx99 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Yikes but your Heritage collection has some choice pieces. And that one is right at home with them. Great wood on it.
Thundersteel Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Sweet! Flame and p-rails--it's a home run!
Gitfiddler Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Nice going, SP! I think Sunset Burst is my new favorite finish for semi's and archtops. Very nice indeed. Give us a tone report on those P-Rails when you get a chance.
tbonesullivan Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 awesome guitar! too bad it's backwards! How do the P-rails sound in the different modes?
FredZepp Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Very nice... that one photographs very well. Congrats. Those pickups should provide a sound full of rich tones, I would guess.... Or maybe a tone full of rich sounds....
zookroo1 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Yeah baby, that's nice! You could swim in that top!
pegleg32 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 BeeeUUUUUtiful SPG. 1 questions: Pick guard or leave it as is?
ronalr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That is an outstanding guitar...just beautiful...congratulations on a real winner .......bet it sounds great!!
yoslate Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Sheesh...! What do you say about something like that??? Great lumber, Paul! I just speculated in another thread that now might be a (the) high period for Heritage Guitars, a sort of Parsons Street Renaissance. Every time I see another new one, I'm left just gobsmacked! Think about all of the guitars posted here in the last six months....
mark555 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Paul, that really is a beautiful guitar, many congratulations on getting that one, where did you source it from? It is really lovely.
conorb Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Just saw it over on TGP. An absolute marvel. Congrats again. conorb
Thundersteel Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Pick guard or leave it as is? I say, leave it as is!
Kuz Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Gorgeous, and that flame is exceptional. Oh, yea, NO PICKGUARD!!!!!!!
tbonesullivan Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Gorgeous, and that flame is exceptional. Oh, yea, NO PICKGUARD!!!!!!! you gotta problem with pickguards on 535s?? Though, I would agree, just keep it as is. If my H-535 hadn't come with the pickguard, I would have left it off. But it just looks so nice so I put it back on.

But once the holes are drilled, I agree they must stay on.
FredZepp Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 BeeeUUUUUtiful SPG. 1 questions: Pick guard or leave it as is? WOOD Pickguard ... yes !!! Plastic... probably not... but I like 'em either way..
SouthpawGuy Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for the compliments guys ! I got this one from New York, ( via Michigan ) a lefty guitar player selling to get a bass. It was never used very much at all. It never had a pickguard fitted, which is fine with me, the finish is too nice to cover up. I have P-Rails in the 170 as well and they do sound different in the 535. With the triple shot switching I have series / parallel / P-90 / single coil for each pickup plus all combinations of those with the pickups combined. The single coil rail setting in particular sounds much better in the 535. The 170 doesn't have the parallel mode which it turns out is great for bass light tones, very clear but not harsh. Series humbucker on the neck is big fat and juicy. I'm finding a lot of the tones to be useful. The P-90s are like fat single coils, not as much bite or attitude as say a G&L MFD, but a welcome change from buckers.
