My 25th anniversary 535 finally in the house

well, I just cracked open the case after about 4 hours thawing. Actually the guitar did not arrive particularly cold. It is gorgeous. But all is not perfect. My bad luck continues. I took a look at the label on the inside. It says Neck p/u 59 and bridge p/u JB. Trouble is I ordered neck - 59 and Bridge Seth Lover. I just fired off an email to my dealer so we will see. I am kind of hoping that Heritage will just put a Seth Lover bridge in the mail to me and I can have it changed over locally. I suppose I can mail the JB back to them, but I am going to have to pay to have the p/u switched. I shouldn't e out of pocket on this. Any thoughts about how this should be resolved? Of course the label will be wrong but I dont think its a big deal. I have not played the guitar or plugged in so can't comment. However I really was going for the most vintage tones I could get and the 59/SL was with that in mind. Don't think the JB is quite the same. That said, guitar looks awesome!!!

Maybe they have the correct pups in it, and just mislabeled the label.

The thought had occurred to me. I will have to check them tomorrow. Just a question? Are Duncan pups labelled well on the bottom?

Should be plenty obvious, what you have there!

Yes, in my experience, they all should have a sticker on there clearly stating the model.

GOod luck!

Since you didn't post any photos we will expect photos of the label, and the underside of the pups.

I am eager to hear if the pu's may be correct. I hope so...

If not, it shouldn't be a big issue, as it sounds like you are thinking of ways to resolve it.

Contact your dealer...

It must have been a very exciting moment to open that case and see the beauty of that Heritage... how cool...

Congrats. Looking forward to pics.

Well boys and girls, the saga continues. Before I tell you all the days events, I should say off the top that I am not angry, and I believe both my dealer, and Heritage have been ABSOLUTELY FIRST CLASS in their handling of this. Here goes:

This morning I pulled out the pups and unfortunately it was a JB and not the Seth Lover I ordered. However, as I put the pup back in and began to play a few things happened. 1. I realized that this was one spectacular guitar. Looked awesome, great wood, and the neck felt totally natural to me from the first minute. I was in love. The problem is that a few minutes in to me running through some tunes, I noticed a crack in the finish on the neck near the nut and around the bottom of the headstock. Then I started to look in more detail and found further cracks "checking" on the guitar particularly on the back in the lower bout near the rear binding.

I immediately took pictures (though the pics could barely pick up and contact my dealer. Jay was apologetic and said that it sounds like checking from cold weather shipping. You may recall my guitar went from KZoo to Florida, back to Kzoo, back to Florida and finally to Toronto all within 4 weeks. He said they had another instance of this last week. He said he would contact me within a few minutes. He did. He informed me that I could have my choice of resolution which included sending guitar back to be repaired or HAVING A NEW ONE MADE. He said that I could likely keep it till the new one was ready. In addition Vince wanted to call me.

While the idea of the new guitar was appealing, I was already loving the neck and finish of this guitar. I had concerns that the new guitar might not come in as nice or as comfortable in the neck. Just as I was thinking about this, Vince called me. We had a nice chat and he was again apologetic. We went through the options again. Vince said that he would like to make me a new guitar but to ensure that the neck profile was the same and to ensure that I got the same quality of flame OR BETTER on wood and same color, he would like me to send this guitar back to him.

I have agreed. He told me the process would take 8 weeks.

While I am upset, I am very appreciative of the work my dealer did and Heritage for dealing with the issue honestly and promptly. I do believe that shit happens sometimes. It is really how people and companies deal with it that separates the wheat from the shaft. So all in all I can't complain except that I have to wait another 8 weeks. The only good thing...I will play if for a couple of days and I will get another NEW GUITAR DAY in 8 weeks. :D

Sorry for your misfortune, Poelbaum!!! But well played on your part! Sounds as though Vince is going to do right by you. I've had the good fortune to speak to him a couple of times at PSP, and he is a stand-up guy. Best of luck, as the saga does continue. I'm sure it will be worth it, in the long run!

Well, it's great that they're being so good about this, the latest goof. I admire your good spirits and positive outlook. I am also sure it will all turn out wonderfully, and that you will love this guitar forever. I personally am dying to buy a 535 myself, and will do so as soon as I can afford it, come hell or high water. So, having said all that - and forgive me for seeming curmudgeonly (can't help it, being a curmudgeon) - but how hard is it to put the right pickups in a custom ordered special 25th anniversary guitar? Just asking.

The boys at the Zoo are the finest kind.

It's great that you are so understanding and willing to work with them, Poelbaum.

And it sounds like Jay did his part in making sure the resolution was satisfactory to all.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop....

Well. by the time this guitar hit the line, the guys on the floor thought it was supposed to have a JB. Vince took the blame for the screw up because he is apparently the one that writes the order onto the hang tag that accompanies the guitar through the process. He wrote the JB. He said that he would have to check the original order placed by Jay, but that he may have just made the error when writing it out. Jay has told me he ordered as a Lover so that would seem to be the error there. The 59/JB combo is apparently often done in the 150s including the Skolnick model.

Well, there you are. I shouldn't have been sarcastic. Like a lot of things, I guess, it's harder to be outraged when you know the pesky facts. Some little mistake messes things up, and nobody notices because it's actually a plausible mistake (it wouldn't be surprising if you had asked for the JB's). You shake your head, and wait. You're a patient man. May you be rewarded!

I am hopeful that my good humour (canadian spelling) and patience will be rewarded. But it does suck....

It always warms the cockels of my heart when I hear another Heritage story like this one. Makes me feel a little proud to be a Heritage customer and fan, as well as part of the HOC. Wish you didn't have to suffer another 8 weeks, but really glad it is turning out well.

At least we have this for now......some of the things that we just expect, and get in an everyday cavalier way, from The Heritage

I just noticed that you must read the quote with this comment to take it as it was intended.... just wanted to be clear..
