Hi folks,

It's me again and it is a dreary Sunday afternoon over here in The Netherlands.

Time to test the VIP2.

I replaced the Schaller pickups for Seymour Duncans Alnico II Pro since the body of this guitar is pure hard maple that can use some warmth.

Hi Jaques.

It can get pretty damn miserable this time of year, try Scheveningen or Volendam ( I'm sure you probably have, great in Summer ).I'm on the east coast of the U.K. & it's just as bad,but it's made you play blues style very well.

About pickups.I have a H140CM I bought in 1986.After using the Schallers for years,I changed them for Seymour '59's. What a difference ! Sometimes you just have to alter things your way to get the best out of the instrument you love. If you're careful with your alterations, things can always be put back to original.

Jaques,

You play like I wish I could!!

Very tasty.

Can I take lessons from you?

The commute might be an issue, though.

Thanks for sharing, Jacques; very nice playing. Reminded me of Santana, and I mean that in a good way.

Yes, it reminds me of Carlos Santana. Excellent playing and great melodic lines. Well done.

Those are nice comments, dudes and they cheer me up (it is monday now and still grey and cold over here).

I guess I must have soaked up some Carlos S. in my past - didn't we all?

Probably the harmonic minor scale, the one from the gypsies, also helped. (I usually play more bluesy and now some of you guys are pointing out the melodic side of my playing. Nice surprise too.)

And isn't that old VIP2 a surprisingly nice sounding guitar!

Hey Jacques, how have you been? I haven't heard you on the forum in a while.

Thanks everybody for those nice replies.

Where have I been?

Well, as far as spare time is concerned, I guess I've been practicing on the guitars! Life is busy for me, being a teacher in high school which eats a lot of energy when you're 57.

I read the topics every now and then, but often there is not much I can add to the excellent comments of my fellow Heritagians. Also: when the Owners Club started I had a lot more questions, because so little was known about the instruments.

But, like a good family, it is always a warm return to you guys and I would not know of any other place where people are so interested in the sound of a Heritage guitar...

Well done! You get quite a tone out of that '88 VIP2. Sounds like your pickup switching made a difference, but your choice of notes didn't hurt either.

Great sounding, and yes there is a Santana feel, you really know how to work that guitar. Thanks for putting that up there. Inspiration for me to practice!

Excellent, classy, tasteful playing Jacques!!!

I would say that Santana sounds a bit like you, not the other way around!!!!

And remember: Carlos was there first...
