brentrocks Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 At first glance of the body, you would think....hummm...thats a nice Les Paul. WRONG ..then you see the headstock and realize it is still of the Kalamazoo birthright, but with a different mother!!!! A 1989 H 150 CM......pics to follow soon.
FredZepp Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Oh... it has arrived..?!! This should be cool. The Gibby Cut 150...
tulk1 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 At first glance of the body, you would think....hummm...thats a nice Les Paul. WRONG ..then you see the headstock and realize it is still of the Kalamazoo birthright, but with a different mother!!!! A 1989 H 150 CM......pics to follow soon.
brentrocks Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Side-by-Side 1989 H 150 on the left. 2003 H 150 on the right. This 1989 Heritage is in AWESOME condition!!! VERY slim neck. Super low action, great frets. This guitar shows less wear than my 2003. Great flame, 1 piece back, nice rosewood. 9.5 lbs. I have to compliment Jeremy for his honesty, the guitar was EXACTLY as he said! The guitar is all original except for the pups....he had a set of Zakk Wylde EMGs installed. I havent had a chance to really give them a full trial...(sound clips comming later)....they are certainly hot though. All-in-all this is a great example of a vintage Heritage...im very pleased!!!!
Scooter Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Very cool! What a nice one to have, Brent. So what's the story about the H-150 and the G Les Paul? Wasn't Heritage forced to change the way the body was cut a tad? And what year did Heritage officially make this adjustment?
FredZepp Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Well ... a cool couple of Heritage axes there. ... Two killer axes there and nice illustration of a Gibby cut also. And , of course, the stinger brings it all home. Nice pics.
tulk1 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Aha!! Thats what you were talking about. Very nice. I think we've seen a pre-redesign once or twice before. But they do seem to be rare, at least on the HoC. Good comparison shots, Brent.
big bob Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 so many guitars, so little money.. another great score sir Brently.
smurph1 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Aha!! Thats what you were talking about. Very nice. I think we've seen a pre-redesign once or twice before. But they do seem to be rare, at least on the HoC. Good comparison shots, Brent. I'm kinda confused..Did Heritage have to change from the triangular pickguard to the one in the right picture? Or was it something else?
smurph1 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Oh...I get it..The horn is LESS pronounced on the 150 on the right..Gotcha..
tbonesullivan Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 ok, now get those #*$(#* EMG's out of there and put in some real pickups. I thought about jumping on that one, but I gotta give time for my bank account and credit cards to recover.
squawken Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Nice Brent. I would say listen to those EMG's with an open mind. I have them in a Epi Zakk Wylde, and I like them. I wouldn't put them in all my guitars, but I really can't complain about them either.
tbonesullivan Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I just find them too sterile sounding. And the high output gets annoying. The tonal profile is, I guess, just not to my liking. They seem to be popular in metal mainly due to the high out put and incredible low amount of noise they generate.
yoslate Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 At first glance of the body, you would think....hummm...thats a nice Les Paul. Heh.... Not with that hardware, I wouldn't! Nice Kalamazoo cherryburst, sir! Oh...and just noticed: GREAT color the mahogany!!
bolero Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 ah, I see the differences now, thx!! 1. horn is different ( I actually prefer the new one! ) 2. the top bout of the body is narrower on the new ones...look at the left side by the pup switch...or is that just an optical illusion? 3. the headstock is longer on the older ones...see how far it extends up past the tuning pegs? and the logo is also moved upwards to match
brentrocks Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Nice Brent!! Got the stinger too.. i love stingers!!!! Heh.... Not with that hardware, I wouldn't! Nice Kalamazoo cherryburst, sir! Oh...and just noticed: GREAT color the mahogany!! i actually thought about putting nashville hardware on it, but this is 1 that should stay original...well, except for the pups, for now. I just find them too sterile sounding. And the high output gets annoying. The tonal profile is, I guess, just not to my liking. They seem to be popular in metal mainly due to the high out put and incredible low amount of noise they generate. Nice Brent. I would say listen to those EMG's with an open mind. I have them in a Epi Zakk Wylde, and I like them. I wouldn't put them in all my guitars, but I really can't complain about them either. im not ready to pull them out yet....they are definately a hard rock pup!!! Very cool! What a nice one to have, Brent. So what's the story about the H-150 and the G Les Paul? Wasn't Heritage forced to change the way the body was cut a tad? And what year did Heritage officially make this adjustment? thanks Scotter!!! i think the official change came in '92-'93.....they had to change truss rod cover too and the headstock on the H 357 Aha!! Thats what you were talking about. Very nice. I think we've seen a pre-redesign once or twice before. But they do seem to be rare, at least on the HoC. Good comparison shots, Brent. Thanks Kenny.....i just love these, because it retains the historical abeyance of the "place" while bragging up the quality of a Heritage.....
SouthpawGuy Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Another fine example of The Heritage craft. Congrats Brent.
brentrocks Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 I thought about jumping on that one, but I gotta give time for my bank account and credit cards to recover. my credit card is on life support, in a coma, and paralized from the neck down
brentrocks Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 3. the headstock is longer on the older ones...see how far it extends up past the tuning pegs? and the logo is also moved upwards to match OMG...the headstock is WAY LONGER!!! didnt see that untill now!!!
ledzef Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 First off Brent nice score again! Love the one piece top on that '89. Now I'm going to ask a silly question. Is the headstock longer on the '89 or is the scale on that guitar longer than other H-150? Maybe it's just a optical illusion but it looks like the '89 has a 25.25 scale fretboard and the other has a 24.75 scale neck. Maybe it's just me I've been sick as hell for the last 3 days. Well enjoy another great guitar Brent. Enjoy, Eric P.S. still too early too tell what sex our baby is, my wife just had her 2nd ultrasound test today. I'll keep everyone posted.
Kuz Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Great score Brent!!! Definitely a keeper (well, maybe). Time will tell???!!!! Personally, I love the color, shape, and dimensions of the "Root Beer" 150.
fxdx99 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Okay - note to admin to add a selection of cookie cutter replies we can select from for Brent's transactions. Will include things like 'nice score, Brent', 'Congrats, Brent', 'Wow, that's a killer guitar, Brent'... etc. Running out of accolades to post on Brent's NGD threads... Is that 4 guitars in 4 weeks? Gotta slow down, man! But yes, that is a nice example of the 'old' Heritage before the mods. Pretty cool.
ronalr Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Congratulations on a great find...and thanks for the comparison and the year change.....that helps me understand my 1990 157....it has the old truss rod cover and pick guard but the horn looks more like the newer ones...or is it just me?....or did they do the 157 different from the beginning?
