Hi and welcome to the HOC ... kbp810 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Congratulations and welcome to HOC! Please post some pics! I have an HFT 445 on the way this week and can't wait for it to arrive. ...also I agree, bluegrass rocks!
tulk1 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Two of the prodigal guitars coming home in the same week? Whats the odds of that? Not sure how many that makes accounted for. But I'm thinking there's only 1 or 2 more owned by HoC members - before these two. Pretty danged cool!!

It was a part of his quest for the his new custom order - and just so happened to be good timing as I was in the market for a new acoustic.

That's how I got my H-140, I walked into the music store at the right time.. and they were dealin..

brentrocks Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Glad to keep her at the HOC, I got her from Brent.. i didnt know you got rid of it?
big bob Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 i didnt know you got rid of it? I did not "get rid of it" I helped her find a new home. I'm looking for funds for a build. I'm also going to be building an acoustic this spring.

I'm also going to be building an acoustic this spring. I'm very interested to see how that acoustic build goes, I have thought about trying that myself; Aside from music my main hobby is working with wood, so seems that might be an eventual transition (or at least a valiant effort) Non-heritage related content, but thought I'd share some pics One of two kayaks I've built, and a new home I built for a beaten down old silvertone I came across

( I'm sure that the Kayak is nice... just not my thing...)

I wonder how the amp would sound mounted to the kayak.. They both look great. I really like wood working, and building things in general. of course I do have a Masters of Fine Arts.
Gitfiddler Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Pardon the brief thread hijack... kpb810~ That is a beautiful cabinet for the Silvertone. What other upgrades did you do to it? Baffle? Speaker, etc. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread topic.
rjsanders Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 got mine some time ago ('02?) from a bluegrass guy in K'zoo via e-bay. a friend preferred it to his high-end Taylor, which he sold. mine's definitely "well-used", but still has a lot of life in it...
kbp810 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Pardon the brief thread hijack... kpb810~ That is a beautiful cabinet for the Silvertone. What other upgrades did you do to it? Baffle? Speaker, etc. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread topic. I think I sort of hijacked this thread already, so my apologies to our new HOC member that started it I made the box out of pine and used a dark red stain, did lots of sanding/staining/sanding to get a good color; had some epoxy left over from the kayaks so also gave it a few thin coats for added strengeth. The baffle was made out of baltic birch ply. The shop by my house had a few random vintage speakers (the original was tore up pretty bad). the one that sounded best had the markings well wore off, but we beleive it was a celestion 30. I'm sure the preamp tubes were not original... but any markings had long wore off (old, but still tested good), went with reissue tung sols he had in stock to replace the power tubes. I'll include the before pic below, as well as a few of the work in progress (Not that in one pic there is a greenback speaker in it... that one sort of flubbed out so that one didn't stay) I did nearly make one big mistake when rehousing the amp itself... the original pots were on a metal plate that was grounded... I put mine on a wood plate and nearly forgot to compensate, first time I turned it on it just buzzed loudly... quick fix though
