Gasp100 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi folks, I'm new here and just joined. I just bought an H150 off of TGP and figured I'd drop in to get more info on the guitar that should be shipped out soon. I was looking for a nice compliment to my new Strat (which also isn't here yet I have EXTENSIVE experience with many MIJ LP's which I love (Burny, Greco, Epi Elitist, Tokai, Orville by Gibson, etc...) and I also have some solid G*bson experience - LP Standard, R8, R4, Vintage Mahogany, Traditional Pro... I know, I have gone through WAY too many guitars. But I am turning over a new leaf this year - buy the best I can afford and KEEP THEM!!! So, how close is the Heritage H150 in fit, finish, playability, tone, etc... to a really nice LP Standard? Are these chambered? (I hope not, mine supposedly weighs in just under 10lbs)! What is the take on the Schaller pickups? (I'm reading everyone loved the HRW's whatever they were, but the original pups in this guitar were Schaller's which are included). The seller upgraded to Dimarzio 36th Anniversary's with aged Nickel covers (I really, really like these pickups so that's a bonus for me). Thoughts on that pairing? Is the different in body shape/contour so much that it's not really like an LP at all? Seems pretty damn close to me. My main concern is neck thickness. It's been described as in between a 60's and 50's, defintely thicker than a 60's -- anyone comment on more specific neck carve specs? I'm definitely hoping it's a little chunkier than a 60's. Now, this one has a finish crack (I have been assured it's definitely NOT structural AT ALL) on the back behind the nut (see pic) but the seller said he contact Heritage and they stated it could be repaired for $150. Has anyone ever had work done post sale from Heritage? Results? I have attached some pics. I usually don't go for fancy guitars (more of a plaintop, nice grain guy with LP's) but I really dig the nice black trans top but natural back/sides. This comes with a TKL hardcase which sounds like it might be original. No case candy though. So, let me know what ya'll think and hello to everybody! As you can tell I like to type FINISH CRACK
big bob Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Welcome and happy future new guitar day. Looks like a nice find, your h-150 will be like a pre 1982 les paul standard, but really think 50's-60's .. thats who made it and on the same machines, sorta.
big bob Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 two black 150's strange day, NICE, but strange
Gasp100 Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Welcome and happy future new guitar day. Awesome, that is what I am after... a nice, solid 1980's style LP Standard works perfectly! I am concerned about the finish crack but I have been assured MANY times by the previous owner that it is definitely NOT structural at all and can only be seen at certain angles.

ronalr Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Looks like a great 150....you will love it....congratulations and welcome to the HOC!!!
FredZepp Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Welcome Gasp100... You did well... that one was a GREAT buy. You will find that this one has premium woods and that vintage handmade mojo. These typically do not have a thin neck, unless it's ordered that way, so you should be happy with the neck carve. Someone that has your experience in these type of guitars will be very pleased indeed. I predict that you will be very , very happy with that one..... Congrats...
brentrocks Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Welcome GASP... that is a killer looking H 150...hopefully that is just a nitro check
peteraltongreen Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 That looks a real nice guitar.Love the colour.Don't know how close to G*bson LP it is.I have an H140CM from 1986.It's fantastic,and the neck is easier than a '60's G*bson,better shape,not too thin.The minor crack on the neck shouldn't be any trouble.I have a U.S. made Epi Wilshire solid from 1964 with a double crack,worse than that,and it's held for 40 years. ( I never played 'My Generation ' again ! ) Pickup wise,I fitted Seymour '59's,and the difference was stunning.Enjoy ! Peter Alton Green ( U.K. )
High Flying Bird Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 two black 150's strange day, NICE, but strange I was wondering about that. Cool!

blues Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Welcome, I think Ive seen you on TGP. First let me say,I have been a member only for a short time. Ive been and am a member of several other guitar and gear boards. This is the best place ive been. No flames, no smarts a**es or snobs. Very helpfull people here. Now while ive not had an 150 (yet) I do have an H-137DC. Ive had many Gibsons, my Heritage is better than many of the G-word guitars ive had, includeing Les pauls. Ive had many guitars in the last 35 years and its in the top 3 ive had. Stick around.
Dick Seacup Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 That's a pretty cool take on the "Black & Tan." It gets the "Official Dick Seacup Seal of Approval!"
conorb Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 They are great guitars. You wont be disappointed. Congrats! conorb
