Thundersteel Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I've been thinking about getting this for my H150, but I'd like to see what others are out there. Is it worth the $27?

High Flying Bird Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I have had 2 of these made for my guitars and I am going to get another. I like to have my name cut into them and fill the letters with a paint that matches the body color. I say go for it!
skydog52 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I've had 4 made by the same company. Did a nice job.
Gitfiddler Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I've also had a few of them made. 2 Pearl and 1 black. Both inlayed with my name. You will not be disappointed and the prices are MUCH less than what Heritage charges for a simple block letter engraved trc.
JeffB Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I've had 4 made by the same company. Did a nice job. Very cool.
Orangepicker Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I like these! The one with the name is the optional mother of pearl with block inlay from Heritage, these are made by Custom Inlay in Kentucky. The abalone one is from them also. At one time you could order them direct from Custom Inlay but I don't know if they still do that.

DC Ron Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Ok guys, I'm now highly torqued that I don't have cooler truss rod covers. Thanks. Sincerely. Here I go again...
tbonesullivan Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I'm feeling inadequate because both of my guitars have silk-screen logos. What I think would be really cool though... bound and stained flame maple truss rod covers. I've also seem TRCs that match the wood of the fretboard.
Thundersteel Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 OK--I'm sold! Now, if I order it with engraving, do they darken the letters as well, or is that up to me?
FredZepp Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 What I think would be really cool though... bound and stained flame maple truss rod covers. I found this to be an interesting idea... a TRC that matches your finish.. pretty cool.
Gitfiddler Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I found this to be an interesting idea... a TRC that matches your finish.. pretty cool. Check out this solid Ebony trc made by Roger Giffin to match one of his masterpieces... Giffin Guitars
skydog52 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 OK--I'm sold! Now, if I order it with engraving, do they darken the letters as well, or is that up to me? They will do it any way you want. Just communicate it to them. I found just calling them worked the best.
proxmax Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 here you see my body matching TRC in trans black maple. then you also can see the ebony tuners fitting great to the fretboard. the MOP TRC looks great - i like it. cheers klaus
kath Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I've been thinking about getting this for my H150, but I'd like to see what others are out there. Is it worth the $27? Are they an exact fit over the original TRC?? Allan
skydog52 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Are they an exact fit over the original TRC?? Allan Yes they are. That company has a Heritage choice for their covers.

Gitfiddler Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 what's wrong guys? is it that ugly? You are kidding, right? That maple-trans-black trc is drop-dead gorgeous!
FredZepp Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 what's wrong guys? is it that ugly? NO , it's not ugly at all ... in fact very very nice. That goes without saying. Thanks for the example. And my comment to it is that entire guitar is quite nice and unique, Really quite a nice Heritage all the way around...!!!! I just got kind of lost thinking of what different finishes would look like in this.. very interesting..
proxmax Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 i laminated this trc from 3 layers maple veneer, turned 90° to get stability. then i cutted the rough form orientating at the original. what looks a bit out of the middle was the same with that plastic one. staining the right tone was more difficult than i thought, 'cause the body's trans black has blue shades in it. so i thinned blue ink with water and made a light blue stain first to let the coming trans black appear colder at the warm maple color. the bright outline is just getting visible through filing a phase.

Oh yeah?... you made that ... very nice. Your effort really paid off. It matches quite well with the guitar finish and I can imagine that was difficult to achieve. It would be a cool option with different finishes....
proxmax Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 it is not that difficult as it may appear. important is to glue good that the stain doesn't get between the veneers, that you will see later in the natural phase. it needs hard pressure. there are many cheap stainpowders to buy, but you should test it first and let it dry - don't forget, the clear coat changes again! i'm sure you can make it.
iim7v7im7 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Hi, I recently had two beautiful ebony truss rod covers with custom mother of pearl inlays by custom luthier in PA for my H-535 and Sweet 16. I had to carefully measure my original ones because they where different in size. I will post some photos soon. I highly recommend them. Excellent quality and service. Bob
