Super Eagle Tailpiece problems?

I have a Super Eagle which I have had set up by the best fret guy on the West Coast. Despite this (and the fact that I have had numerous other techs look at my guitar), I have a serious buzz on the 5th and 6th frets of the G string. It has driven several guitar techs nuts trying to track it down. I recently thhink I have found the source of the buzz.... not the neck or fret, but a sympathetic vibration within the tailpiece. I also notice that when I tune the instrument, the G and D string seem to slip at times and "pop". I've even had the D string just "fly off" on a gig, coming loose from the tailpiece, for no apparent reason. I am beginning to think that where the strings set into the tailpiece does not securely "hold" the strings, thus the "pop" sound when tuning the G and D strings AND the resonant buzz on C and C# on the 3rd string.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with a tailpiece on either a Super Eagle or a Golden Eagle? If you have, please respond with any solutions you have found to this so that someone else with a similar problem (including myself!) can fix it. I might have to go to a different tailpiece??

Thanks,

In the flying D-string example, sounds like the ball was never fully seated in the tailpiece. I've had this happen before. If you look under the tailpiece you'll be able to see if one or more ball ends are out of place. Have both the H and bail type tailpieces on my big boxes and never had a sympathetic vibration problem though. Good luck!

I had a Super Golden Eagle that had serious vibration problems. Sent it back to J Wolf. They could not fix it. When I got it back home I called Heritage and they had me send it back to them. They had to change out the H tailpiece and when they sent it back to me it had a 1 inch crack on the top!! Long story short I now have 2 golden eagles. I think they did away with the H tailpiece because of the problems they were having.

Palsat, relax, you're fine. If you notice Kath still has the H tail. There's nothing in that piece that can't be resolved. The H has been discontinued because of supplier issues, not vibration. I have 5 guitars with the H tail and no problems; nor has the issue come up before.

The Super Eagle has an 18" lower bout, the Eagle, Classic Eagle and Golden Eagle have 17" lower bouts. There is no standard Super Golden model. They are all wonderful guitars and a pleasure to play. There is one thing to look out for - they are very addictive. :P
