mad dog Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hey all. My first post here. I've admired Heritage guitars from afar for years. Long wanted a 525, 555 too. So a trade possibility comes along, a custom built Roy Clark model, the earlier one with one cutaway, schaller p/us. I'm waiting on pics. It's a '99. The headstock is different than the usual Heritage, more rectangular. Also, this particular guitar has no binding on the neck, and only one fret marker. Special ordered that way. I know nothing about these, except that they are close in construction to the H535. What can you guys tell me? I have an old ES-335, a '66 with the narrow neck. Would this Heritage bring anything different to the table tonally? Any other comments? Thanks so much for your help. Michael D.
cod65 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I would love to have one of those. I passed on a lefty some yrs ago and regretted it. they are fairly infrequent on the used market.
tulk1 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Any other comments? Sure! -Welcome to the HoC. What better way to jump in than with a custom guitar? And a Roy Clark model, at that! Personally, I know nothing about that model. But we have some here that will. Be sure to add the pics when you get them. And don't be shy - jump right in the fray.
brentrocks Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Welcome...the Roys are incredible guitars!! We will be patiently waiting for pics...LOL
peteraltongreen Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi Mad Dog. I think you'll find the Roy Clarke a great guitar. My pal has a '66 335.What I don't like is the very thin neck It's too thin for me,and his 335 also has a factory fitted tailpiece instead of stop bar.It still delivers, but I think once you get used to the Heritage, you'll keep the 335 as an ornament. Enjoy. Peter Alton Green ( U.K.)
mad dog Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Thank you all, for your comments. I'm seriously pondering this strange Heritage. I'm hoping it's different enough from the ES-335, cause my old 335 is one sweet guitar. Neck on the thin side, yes, but I actually never even noticed that years ago when I got it. It has the finest humbuckers. Love that guitar. The Heritage certainly looks a bit different. And it has Shaller humbuckers, about which I know nothing. What are they like! Another question. Does anyone know if the H-537 is shorter Gibson scale, or the 25.5" fender scale? Thanks Michael D.
smurph1 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 hi Mad Dog..Welcome to the HOC..You will find many opinions on the Schaller Pickups..Many replace them..I personally love the sound of mine in my old H-140 ('85)..The best thing to do is to try em out..If you like em great!! If not there is a lot of expertise on the board that can guide you in finding the pickups you want...
ronalr Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Welcome to the HOC Michael.....this is a great place for information about everything Heritage....lots of knowledgeable and helpful folks around here....hope to see some pictures of that Roy Clark soon and a review.....
DC Ron Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 The single cutaway RC's are great. There are two versions. Mine is the older one with Rosewood fretboard. Nice flame, slim/fast neck. Go for it!

I like the longer scale Fender necks myself..my fingers have gotten wider with age (as has the rest of me as well) and the upper frets on the shorter Gibson type scale can be a challenge, the upper frets on the Fender scale seem to have a wider spacing. Did Heritage make any longer scale guitars?

Did Heritage make any longer scale guitars? I believe that they showed a H-530 with 25.5" scale at the latest NAMM... special order. From Premier Guitars NAMM 2010 coverage.. "Heritage H-535 - a ES335-style guitar with a 25.5" scale neck" but Karl explains in the comments..The Heritage shown in the picture is a 530 (with P90s) and not a 535 (which comes with humbuckers). http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/i...ost&id=5581
SouthpawGuy Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 According to the Heritage website the Super Kenny Burrell, Golden Eagle, Super Eagle and Sweet 16 are all 25 1/2" scale.
FredZepp Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 According to the Heritage website the Super Kenny Burrell, Golden Eagle, Super Eagle and Sweet 16 are all 25 1/2" scale. And Eagle Centurions too....
