EddieF Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hi, This is my first post. I've been lurking here for some time. I've been looking for a nice Jazz Guitar and think I've found it. My local dealer had a blond (natural finish) one in stock but I really like the look of the more traditional "Old Style Sunburst". The tough part is waiting 4 to 6 months. One thing I'm wondering about is should I have orderd the optional tone control. It only comes with a volume control. Since it takes so long to get I probably have time to revise my order. So do any of you think I would miss the tone control ? Thanks, Eddie
brentrocks Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Congrats on the order!!! I personally like to have a tone control, especially on the neck pickup. I dont use one so much on a bridge pup....but the Golden Eagle only has a neck pup so i guess i would vote YES on the tone control I just recieved my 1st custom order Heritage a few weeks ago...the wait is well worht it!!! Welcome to the club!!!
yoslate Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 So do any of you think I would miss the tone control ? Only if you don't have one.... Congrats, Eddie, and welcome to the fold!
FredZepp Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Welcome and congrats on the custom order, Eddie. The OSB finish is quite nice and classic. And I think that the fact that you are second guessing about the tone is probably a good reason to go ahead and get it... You'd rather not wish that you'd done it after waiting all that time..... It's custom, get what you want. (My $.02) We're glad that you decided to quit lurking and join in....
EddieF Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Well it looks like I need to call my Heritage Dealer tomorrow to see how much of an adder the tone control is. By the way my brother orderd a Super Eagle the same time as I ordered the Golden Eagle. My brother had some questions on the Super Eagle and talked to Ren at the factory. He said he could have talked to him all day, Ren was so nice & knowledgable.
EddieF Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 What part of the country are you in Eddie? Delaware, the local Heritage Dealer is Middletown Music. Great people to deal with. Eddie
Steiner Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hi Eddie - I lurked here a while before getting eagles too. I had my heart set on an L-5. Whew! Almost tripped there... Fortunately, akin to yourself, I found a heritage and everything I need. Since then, I've never looked back. Welcome.

Gitfiddler Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Another vote for adding the tone pot. Keep in mind that archtops are mostly 'one trick ponies' tone-wise. By adding a tone control you expand your pallet a bit. You didn't mention which pickup you ordered. HRW maybe? Also, Old Style Burst (OSB) is a great finish on Golden Eagles. That's the finish on my '93 and I love it. Let us know when it arrives.

Eddie Welcome Eddie and congratulations on the new custom order......you are not that far from me....(I am just outside Baltimore in your direction)....We go through Middletown on the way to the beaches....I didn't realize Middletown Music was a Heritage dealer....you don't pay tax on a guitar in Delaware do you?
DC Ron Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Check out the gallery. Gitfiddlers OSB GE is crazy. Used to be mine before I lost my mind...

Baltimore is a nice city. I've been to the Inner Harbor many times. One of my favorite places to go to. There is no sales tax in Delaware & Jay at Middletown music was great help to both me & my brother in ordering our Heritage guitars. Eddie
EddieF Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Check out the gallery. Gitfiddlers OSB GE is crazy. Used to be mine before I lost my mind... DC Ron, That is a beautiful guitar. Did you really sell it ? I've sold amps but I have every guitar I've had since I was 13 years old. My first electric was a cheap Japanese Gibson 335 copy but with single coil pickups. I just recently took it to a luthier to have Gibson humbuckers installed. My parents bought it new from my guitar teacher and it still has my blood stains on the pickguard from me trying to play too hard. I used this guitar on my first paying gig. Just can't seem to part with any guitar I've owned. They are like a part of me even though my first one was cheap. After I finished school I bought a 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom. Unbelievable, now but I paid $450, brand new, for it. It took me a year to save enough money to pay for it and it still plays like silk, I would not part with it for any money Eddie
Gitfiddler Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Hey Ron, you know you have visitation rights any time you are in the SF Bay Area! I just took that photo last Saturday, so you know it's still getting lots of TLC. I play it gently but regularly. It is one of the most amazing instruments I've ever played. You can barely see the 12 adjutable poles on the Kent Armstrong custom wound PAF floater.

Gitfiddler bought it from the guy I sold it to and endlessly torments me with offers of visitation rights. I have compensated. Some might say over compensated. Some, but not me.

Ashamed to say I was in Tiburon and surrounding areas in July and too captured by the entertainment and inlaws to impose. Remind me to send you a picture of the parka I was wearing while driving the rental convertible. Wasn't the only one. Summer on the bay is...chilling! I rotate between the brood of Heritage and a-draft-choice-to-be-named-later (currently an Ibanez AS-193 MIJ semi) and am constantly saying, "Geez, I should PLAY this one more..." Variety is the spice, I guess. All the best, Ron

So Ron, keep your parka on when you visit San Francisco in the SUMMER time! Hey, the AS-193 is a fine git. They only made them a year or two from my research. I had a rare AS200NT (Blonde of course) that just left for the DC area last year. Great instrument!!
Ned Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 + 1 on the tone knob. Last night I was playing with a guy who had a guitar named after a cocktail...something like a Martini, but with onions. Anyway, it was an old 175 (blond, all maple ply) and had PAFs and when I backed off the tone on my sweet 16, I came in pretty close to his tone. Without the knob, I would been brighter than I would have liked. Not an issue at all when I am playing alone or unplugged.....

Do not kick yourself later for something you wish you had done. See if you like the gold plated pickup. Also notice the tailpiece on my thin golden eagle. That is a special ebony tailpiece that Heritage put on the guitar. I had trouble with the H tailpiece. Had an unexplained ringing from the tailpiece. The H tailpiece on this golden eagle is fine. Glad I changed to the ebony tailpiece on my thin eagle. Allan
rjsanders Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 put it this way: if you have the tone control, then you can't miss it. (welcome, & get yer brother aboard here, too)
EddieF Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 put it this way: if you have the tone control, then you can't miss it. (welcome, & get yer brother aboard here, too) I called my dealer (Middleltown Music) and ordered the tone control. You guys have been great and I thank you for all of your input on this. And your right, I wouldn't want to wish I had it. It's not often I buy a guitar, so it should come the way I want it. One other note I looked at Asian made guitar (Epiphone, Peerless, & D'Angelico) but nothing souded sweeter that the Heritage Golden Eagle. Also, I am of the opinon that guitars and cars should be made in the USA. Eddie
