New member and roller bridge question

Hello, and thanks to the powers that be for providing this great site! I'm a new member and new-to-me Heritage owner..

Thanks to the info on here I found out it's a 1993 H-150. Unfortunately the control panel was replaced at some point - it says "H-150 White" but I seriously doubt this was refinished from white... No one in their right mind would cover that beautiful top! Anyone know what this finish is called? Honeyburst? Lemonburst?

So my question concerns the stock Schaller roller bridge. Shortly after receiving the guitar, I replaced the strings with my usual big-bottom .52-.10s. Unfortunately the low E and G strings are too big for the saddles and they rest on top of the groove instead of sitting in it. This slightly mutes the strings and doesn't work for me. Does Schaller make different sized rollers other than the stock ones? I see that there are two different sizes on it now for the wound and unwound strings and I'm sure the larger, wound saddle would work for the G, but is there a bigger one I could use for the E? I'm probably just going to replace the bridge and tail piece with a TonePros TOM, but I thought I'd check here first and see if the Schaller is even usable for me.

Thanks!

Nice 150. I was under the impression that all of the rollers were the same, and way too large to have this issue.

That finish is Vintage Sunburst, and a nice example of it is, too! Welcome to the fold alaska! Hard to go wrong with the TonePros hardware, a very popular upgrade here!

That looks like a VSB --- Vintage sunburst. Some with that particular finish have very little "burst", others a little more. Nice guitar by the way, and welcome to the HOC.

Gorgeous top and color! Nice snag! I would just go with the Tone Pros bridge IMO :headbang: They look good and sound good also.

Welcome Alaska!

that is a beautiful VSB H 150 you have there!!!

i would also suggest going to the Tone pro hardware with maybe a wrap-around stringing...i like to do mine that way... :headbang:

BEAUTIFUL !!!! ;)

That's really a nice looking 150 there... congrats.

Although I am ok with the roller bridge, I wouldn't put too much effort into fixing it.... just replace it, as you had already guessed.

Only the best for a beauty like that ... :headbang:

from what I've seen VSB is almost like "light burst", or maybe is a recreation of "unburst", which is the end result of using dyes that faded in early les paul cherry sunburst guitars.

Thanks everyone! I'll update my progress...

Nice 150. I was under the impression that all of the rollers were the same, and way too large to have this issue.

No, there's definitely two different widths. I noticed when I was restringing and thought it was strange that the previous owner had swapped the E and G saddles. Now I understand that the wider one allowed the G string to sit in the saddle while the narrower one made the low E sit higher and didn't pinch it so much.

And Brent, what do you like about wrapping the strings around the tail piece? I tried that years ago when I had a Les Paul Studio, but I didn't notice any differences, and I was worried I was putting more stress on the string where it bends around and risking breakage.

By the way, I'm an engineer and I tend to over-think all the little details...

Nice H150!

I think the overall majority here (myself included) don't like the Schaller bridge, as they/we feel it robs the guitar of too much tone.

The T-O-M bridge works MUCH better. A lot of the members here like the Tones Pros bridge, but I prefer a "regular" T-O-M bridge with Faber locking hardware.

The question Chrome or Nickel is for this guitar.

It has Grovers (i believe nickel). The guitar is from '88 and may have a vintage look.
