Jazzerous Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Hi All, I am a new member and am about to pick up another guitar. I currently own a Fender American Strat and Telecaster but want a hollow/semi hollow guitar. I have looked and played the Gibson 335 and it was OK but overpriced. I have narrowed down my selection to either a Prospect or the Yamaha. There are no dealers where I live and the Yamaha is being discontinued so I can't actually play either. Do any of you have experience with both and if so what would be your take on which one to get (quality, sound, etc). (BTW: I am mostly into the Blues, no hard rock, country, metal, etc). The price I was quoted on the Yamaha works out to be about the same for what I can get a Prospect for This is a great forum and I appreciate the help! Hi DW, why not get a used 535 like I did for a lot less than the Yamaha and Prospect ? If you get one and you don't like it you could sell and not get hurt. Here is the one I bought today!!

All above are valid points.... but I will continue to encourage a NEW custom order from our boy at the plant. You get what you want and help support this great company and employees (which many of us call our friends)!
FredZepp Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Just bought an 09 H535!!! Will post photos later Way to Go !!! You will be pleased , I am sure. The dealer playing with the quoted price on the other one didn't seem right, but was a good thing. Led you into making the right choice. Fate. I just checked out the one you got on eBay and it really sounds like a sweet one..... congrats and tell us more when you get it.
blueox Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 "Well I first had it narrowed down to buying a 2200 from a local dealer or that Prospect from Eddie's. Actually went ahead and put my order in for the Yamaha as I was quoted a price of $1500 + case. Dealer called back about an hour later and told me the price had gone up and the guitar alone was going to be $1999 (he later came down $200). Decided it wasn't "worth" $2100 out the door." Yes, you learned the true nature of your dealer, as he screwed with the Yamaha price, but you will now end up with a much better instrument (in my opinion), the Heritage H-535. I predict that you will have found your tone machine.
Assumer Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Yamaha makes great stuff. Guy I play with at church has several and they are great guitars but he bought them used for cheap. That being said, I would also go with the Heritage. More vibe and just killer stuff.
