jazzbone Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I'm a noobie to the forum and a first time Heritage owner. I recently traded my way into a H150 and I'm really diggin' this guitar. I was a little dubious about the Schaller bridge and tailpiece but the more I play it the less it bothers me. I may still swap out the pickups but I'm still researching and haven't decided which PAFs I want. Wolfetone, Sheptone, Florence, Van Zandt...seems the more I hunt around the more interesting choices there are. I don't think I'll be spending the $300+ for some out there but, there are some lower cost options. When I was a youngster and fresh out of the service and could afford a decent guitar, I went the Gibson route. An SG then an LP, ES175 even a Johnny Smith but ended up with Strat and pretty much stuck with Strats' ever since. But recently I got the itch for the sound of a pair of humbuckers through an old Fender and traded a Nash relic for this H150. As far as comfort and playability it puts many of the Gibbys I've played to shame. I know that statement may rile a few but I'm just calling it as I see it...IMHO Don't get me wrong...if I had the oportunity to snag a vintage LP for next to nothing, I'd jump on it...I'm just sayin. Anyway, I wanted to share some pic... Thanks for looking and glad to be here... Ed
golferwave Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Welcome to the HOC Ed! That's one fine lookin H-150 you have! Looks like maybe a H-150 Special because of the dot inlays? Usually the Specials don't have that fine of a top. Anyway, enjoy your Heritage and we know you'll be on the lookout for your next one!
ledzef Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Ed, first off welcome to the club! Nice to see a new member posting pics of their git. As for saying less than flattering things about Gibson no worries. Only thing that ruffles feathers on this board is the headstock issue, other than that this is a pretty relaxed place. So sit back and have fun talking about our favorite guitars Heritage. Oh yeah nice guitar you have there!

I pulled the control cover off this evening and the sticker reads: H150 Spec OSB. I love the profile of the neck and the guitar doesn't feel overly heavy. Very comfortable

FredZepp Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Welcome... I really like that 150. An excellent top and ... dots. Nice vintage look to that. As to pickups ... I love my Sheptone PAF Tributes in a 157. If I remember correctly.. $ 229 a pair for the pu's and 40 for nickel covers.

barrymclark Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Thanks for the welcome...What headstock issue...I kinda like the Heritage headstock. The shape of the headstock. For some it is the wart on an otherwise beautiful lady. For others, it is a badge of honor. For the rest, it is just part of the guitar and who cares. There have been a couple of lengthy and rather heated threads on this.

FredZepp Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Both of those are exceptional... Great looking Heritage there , Jazzbone. And both are dots..... I guess they were custom ordered that way and not a different model of the H150-CM. I assume that the label just says H-150CM ?
Horace Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Welcome Jazzbone. Great top on that 150 ! Now go play some crazy bebop. Tal
tulk1 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Both of those are exceptional... Great looking Heritage there , Jazzbone. And both are dots..... I guess they were custom ordered that way and not a different model of the H150-CM. I assume that the label just says H-150CM ? The 150CM Specials only came with dots. Attempt at a less expensive 150, yet still have everything else the regular runs have - killer tops, excellent hardware, k'zoo mojo and on and on. Only dif I can remember is the dots v traps. Jazzbone - that is one killer guitar! Give the stock pups some time. You may find they grow on you, much the same as the hardware is doing. Then again, pickups are relatively inexpensive and easy to swap. Could be fun.
Kuz Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Great guitar and welcome to forum. And, as hard as it might be to believe, some of us actually prefer the Heritage headstock!!! Welcome and don't be a stranger.
