Patrick Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 DA1027_5.zipThis is what skilled craftsmen can do
yoslate Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Utterly stunning! And, yes, that would be what The Boys and The Girl do!
tulk1 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Isn't there one on the proto rack at the shop? At least the neck/headstock? BirdMan might remember. I seem to recall he hung out there extensively. And boy oh boy, that is one exquisite guitar!

So Patrick , you bought that one from Jay recently? ... if so... nice catch.
FredZepp Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 So Patrick , you bought that one from Jay recently? ... if so... nice catch. I just read the other thread.... I guess it's a Heritage buying spree..... You know .... with the quality of guitars that you are buying, you should treat yourself to a new custom order made to your specs.... just sayin' ...
Patrick Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 OH YEAH, There is one on the prototype rack... that caught my eye right away... So Patrick , you bought that one from Jay recently? ... if so... nice catch. Yeah . . . I tried to order a new Super Eagle, made to my specific specs, through Wolfe Guitars. Jay worked with me to get the specs in to Heritage. Unfortunately, at the time, Vince was going through a pretty tough time with health issues with his kids. Fortunately, the kids seem to have come through it OK (thank God). However, I waited 4 weeks and couldn't get a price quote allowing me to move ahead with the order. Vince's priority was his kids . . and rightly so. So, being the impatient bone head that I am, I went ahead and bought 2 other Super Eagles. I am currently having a custom made 18" arch top made for me right now by none other than Aaron Cowles. It should be completed by mid June. Quite extensive upgrades. It's gonna be awe inspiring. As you know, Aaron worked at Gibson for some 20 years back in the era of the 70s and has done most of the tap tuning for Heritage. He made me a 17" X braced arch top that is drop dead gorgeous. I'll post pictures. I love to show that guitar. Aaron is a great man and a great builder unity.zip
Gitfiddler Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I knew Jay had some cool stuff, but D'Angelico by Heritage!!!!! Oh my! Congratulations, Patrick.
Patrick Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 I don't like the headstock. It's incredible how personal and subjective the headstock of guitars can be for guitar crazies like us. But, that's why Baskin Robbins comes in 52 flavors. I kind of felt the same way when I first saw the head stock and the angel . . . . then it kinda grew on me . . . . much like to Heritage snake head design. I thought it was God awful ugly. I mentioned as much to Marv Lamm when I first visited the plant some years ago. Now, I can't picture my Heritages with anything else. Here are some shots of a triple nickle I just picked up

High Flying Bird Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Nice guitar Patrick. Looks like Jay brought this one out of the bat cave. Here is Marv holding the guitar from the prototype room's rack.
Patrick Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Nice guitar Patrick. Looks like Jay brought this one out of the bat cave. Here is Marv holding the guitar from the prototype room's rack. I saw that guitar (proto type) when I was up there 2 months ago. It has "issues". Nothing the skilled crew at Parsons St. couldn't fix. I tried to get them to sell it to me and complete it. It's already spoken for. Mr. Jim Deurloo will add that to his personal best
LH575 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 nice looking guitar. Can't imagine playing it though. Looks huge! I love 16" wide guitars - ES-175/125, H575, Sweet 16, 6120, etc.... Is there much of a sound diff with bigger jazz boxes?
conorb Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 That is definitely cool. Patrick, when the new one shows up you *have* to keep us posted. conorb

tulk1 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Boy my attempt at humor just sunk on this thread... Not sure of the others, but at the mention of any headstock issues I now go into H.A.M. (Headstock Avoidance Mode).
FredZepp Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Boy my attempt at humor just sunk on this thread... Not really ... I assumed that it was a jokin' comment, because that is one cool headstock. And some of us like archtops with large dramatic headstocks.
Patrick Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Not really ... I assumed that it was a jokin' comment, because that is one cool headstock. And some of us like archtops with large dramatic headstocks. Mr. "guitartman" . . . I guess I mis-interpreted you humor. But I wasn't offended by your comment either. As a New Yorker, I'm very used to direct no BS comments. It's gonna take a lot more than dissing my headstocks to get under me upset. It is an unusual inlay . . the angel . . and at first, I thought it was a bit "gaudy" myself. That's what I thought you were referencing. As I said, no offense taken. However, with that being said, I have seen some seriously ugly headstocks out there on some of these "boutique" builders that are asking $20,000 and higher for their guitars. In my opinion, Aaron Cowles out builds most of them at a small fraction ofthe cost. That's if you want a custom made guitar where only 1 set of hands ever touches the work. Other than that, from a production stand point. . it just doesn't get any better than the crew up at 225 Parsons Street.

I think 'Slate will back me up as a fellow Super Eagle affcionado in saying Hell yeah! 17" would probably the bist fit for me physically, but the 18"'ers produce such a huge sound. Not loud, "huge" sound. You can even hear it when plugged in, and you definitely feel it while playing. One of the best parts of Spring is taking the carved tops out of humidified hybernation!
Thundersteel Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Here is Marv holding the guitar from the prototype room's rack. Marv looks soooooooooooooooo happy!

Hell yeah, I'll reiterate "Hell yeah!" Yo, Matt! Good to hear from you. That super Super is the only thing I own to which the adjective "Huge" actually applies!

Hey yoslate, forget huge . . . ya don't have to worry about touchin' bottom as long as you wack the hell outta the sides!!! Of course. . . . I'm talkin about guitars now.
FredZepp Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hell yeah, I'll reiterate "Hell yeah!" Yo, Matt! Good to hear from you. That super Super is the only thing I own to which the adjective "Huge" actually applies! Those big Heritages have a full voice and it is very nice to play one......
Bluzman54 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I think 'Slate will back me up as a fellow Super Eagle affcionado in saying Hell yeah! Count me in on this one. Incredible tone.......love mine. Jim C
